You mean to tell me that some dude spit on you and there was not a fight? All you did was look at him? Wow.
Man, the city of Glendale was depressing. The whole place is like the theme song from "Weeds". It took forever to find a place with decent beer selection and everything is ridiculously spread out. We drove around for miles before getting to the orange lot and we opted to wait around in the parking lot for a few hours afterwards, rather than getting in our car and dealing with the horrendous traffic getting out. Just terrible, terrible planning. Aside from a few positives (free parking, a nice lawn to kick the ball around beforehand), the whole stadium experience was terrible. Security was so lame (no banners, wtf?!?) and they kept harassing the SA section to get people out of the aisles. Uh, isn't that your job, stadium employee? Why are you delegating that work to fans, threatening to kick them out if the guys in the aisle don't move? The SA section wasn't huge in terms of numbers (and there were quite a few Mexico fans sitting in the section), but it was a decent showing, all things considered. It's tough to make a mid-week game. US fans were greatly outnumbered though, and couldn't make a dent in the stadium noise. It wasn't that the Mexican fans were that loud, but there were just so many more of them. The best cheer of the night was definitely the "No Se Puede!". Dirty Sanchez definitely earned his nickname as well.
I love how security did nothing about the mexican fans throwing beer on the field. They were completely unprepared and the stupid lady outside sent us tot he other side of the stadium to enter only to walk back to the other side of the stadium to get to our seats!
well the security in K-town did nothing about the americans throwing beer on the field so it's no surprise
Galaxian - you and your friends did an awesome job - again. I vote for you being the leader of all S/West Sam's Army sections. Loved your mom, too. The fact that the owners of the stadium can arbitrarily decide not to let anyone drape signs, flags, banners, etc. was ridiculous. It was agreed before the game but the stadium owners said no at the last minute. The stadium carried a lot of noise and it was hard to hear the chants. I noticed the back rows weren't cheering too much when I looked but the drum did help to let them know which cheer to shout. I felt it wasn't a real US v Mexico game because I didn't have any food or drink thrown at me. Seems it did happen at other locations. Wish USSF would give more info about the US fans section. I talked to a lot of people about Sam's Army and finding the info on BS. They go Big what? There needs to a lot more education for soccer fans out there.
Forgot - my friend got around the draping the flag rule. We were supposed to keep out hands on the flags or other banners draped. He wore the flag and turned it around to drape over the side.
Yep... section 135 right next to you. Most of it was being aimed at someone in your section with an American flag. Noticed they all left after throwing their beers on us lol. I actually went down and talked to the dork for our section and said do something but he didn't have a radio or anything. I said thanks alot and now I'm staying here. I was in row 18 but watched the rest of the game in row 1 so I was a little farther from the beerfest. Freakin hysterical.... mexicans throwing away perfectly good beer lol. Never dreamt I'd see the day.....
Thanks a lot . I will definitely try my best to organize things for nats games on the west coast , because I think if the supporters section shows well for january friendlies , we have a better chance of getting a qualifier , which would be awesome.
Yeah I was pounded with beer and soda w/ice too. So classless. And beer was pretty pricy at the stadium.. what a waste! I totally agree on other posters here, there was absolutely NO security at all.
I was at the match- still have to watch it on TiVo. I heard I'm on it near the 90th minute. Post afterwards.
if you can figure out how to screen shot, let me know. I watched the game on my comp yesterday but I couldnt get the screen shot to save, whenever I pressed play, the paint file would change!
Palermo......if you want to send me a pm with your address, I've got some good pictures of you with your friend(s). Thanks again for hooking us up with tickets. My son & his friend had a great time. This was the friends first soccer experience EVER.
You have to give us a pass on this one. What’s wrong with the kids wearing their uniforms to the game, especially a local pro game? What the kids are saying is – I’m not just a fan, I’m a player and I am good enough to play for such and such club. That is their identity and many of them have put in countless hours of practice and play in order to wear that shirt and those cleats. And they will tell you there is no need to clean up the blood and the mud on them. A supporter may wear the team’s shirt proudly but a kid who is wearing a shirt that he has earned the right to wear is even prouder. Just my 2 cents.
Interesting point. Kids should be proud of their team and parents should be proud of their kids. I still have my high school age club kit and my junior high club kit. I also have 4 kits for adult clubs I've played with and still play with today. I don't wear them to the Galaxy games or USMNT/USWNT games. It reminds me of the conversation my parents had with me when I wanted to wear jeans to church. They said, "it isn't about you..." I'd feel the same way about the dad who attends his kid's AYSO game wearing his Chelsea jersey. He's saying "I'd rather be watching Setanta at the bar across town", or "I don't really know care about football but this shirt looks cool on me!". I accept that we probably won't agree on this, but I think there is a time to celebrate what YOU do, and a time to celebrate what the team your supporting does.
Excellent shots! I'm in two of them! And under the flag for the other two! I complained earlier in this thread about traffic and also complained to US Soccer. Here is their response: "Dear Tom, Thank you for your feedback regarding the U.S. Men's National Team vs. Mexico game in Glendale, Arizona this past Wednesday. We understand your frustration and assure you that all possible measures within our means were taken to expedite traffic after the match. Unfortunately, a tragic accident, which completely shut down the AZ-101, took place at approximately the same time our match was letting out. This was the primary reason for the lengthy delay upon exit. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. If you have any questions, please let us know. We thank you for your support of the U.S. Men's National Team and hope to see you at future matches!"
I brought a newbie, too. He had a great time and was a natural yelling at the top of his lungs and following the chants after the first verse. I was so proud!
It was the Triangle Soccer Fanatics 20x30 footer. wjarrettc was kind enough to send it out for the two matches .
And I'm the asshole in the white Dempsey jersey in the front row that taunted Mexican fans the whole game
