Re: Mario Rodríguez back to MLS?? i don't know if anyone heard but Guillermo "el pando" Ramirez is rumored to go to Kansas as well http://www.guatefutbol.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1461&Itemid=2 the transfer is going to be a clear deal worth 270,000 $ and mario will be a loan deal basis but very good pick ups, pando has so far 4 goals in the season for municipal which started a few weeks ago Mario hasn't played a game since october, but should find form by april, his crossing is decent and hit or miss at times , but he mostly know for his work up and down the line , he has a real good touch , speed wise he can be quick, but not blazing fast. pando is a fancy dribbler, very strong , he lacks a shot , but if he plays a center midfield role he can score a lot . both has had a up and down careers in the last two years, but if given the proper chance and put in thier natrual posistions they will thrive
Re: Mario Rodríguez back to MLS?? Pando? The same guy that played for the Galaxy a few years ago? No thank you. In his time with LA, he scored all of 1 goal, granted that was in the MLS Cup final, but you say he can score a lot? History in MLS has proven otherwise. And Mods, can we get his post copied into a new thread to discuss this possible development and keep it seperate from the Rodriguez discussion?
I remember this guy from his galaxy days. He is an ok player, but not one imo that is one to a spark to a very dead, defensive midfield.
im very against picking up ex-galaxy players too. i know - Sasha turned out to be not such a bad guy, and a good midfielder, but my objection still stands in general. i will remain skeptical of Hartman until he proves me wrong again.
He's Guatemala's answer to Mike Burns. He scores a 40 yard rocket goal, then spends the next 20 games shooting the ball into Row LL trying to duplicate it. I went to the final USA/GUA World Cup Qualifier a few days after we beat Mexico in Columbus. Guatemala was coming off of a huge win over Trinidad where Pando scored one of his rocket golazos. The Guatemala City papers the day after the U.S. game consistently called him the worst player. The ratings ran the gamut from 2 to 3. He spent the whole game trying to score from 40 yards out. He's like a poor man's Jose Burciaga, Jr. At least Jose has the good sense to put four or five of those in the back of the net, and mix his head shaking shanks with actual crosses.
I was always in the "Pando-apologists" group. He's a good passer, and has the size & skill to effectively control the offense from the center of the field. With LA, Sampson always put him on the left because A) Sampson loved Vagenas too much to put him anywhere else and B) Sampson is a god-damned fool Yes he had 60+ shots without a goal. But, he is an above-average midfielder for MLS. Nothing to base a franchise on, but he is pretty good.
I was gonna say Guatemala's answer to Fancisco Gomez. Thanks for spliting the thread Spoon, or whichever of the mods it was.
anyone dissing Pando's play on the Galaxy must realize this. He has played central midfield his entire life until Steve Sampon got the idea to put him at left mid. That'd be like asking Kaka to play wingback all of a sudden. It was stupid. Pando left the Galaxy and lead the Guatemalan league in scoring, easily. He's really good as long as a dipsh!t like Sampson isn't his coach.
pando, as with so many other players from the '05 squad was ruined by steve sampson. sampson played him on the left side of midfield, which was just dumb. i don't know if your new coach is the right person to do it, but under the right tutelage i think pando could be a nightmare for defenders in MLS.
I for one wouldn't mind see the guy suit up for the Wizards. We certainly need a spark in the midfield and I don't see alot of alternatives right now.
Anyone who's watched Pando play with Guatemala over the years knows full well that Steve Sampson isn't responsible for ruining him. He's been squandering his talent all by himself. Frankly, I'd rather pass on this project.
Where is the realism? I see most of Galaxy supporters like myself are all trying to tell you KC fans that pando is a "real" baller. But if you choose to believe that he is washed up at 26 and was a bum for the Galaxy why should we get em type attitude. Well I for one wouldn't mind him in my midfield right now. You (Kansas City) don't have much in your midfield right now to be turning down fairly talented players. Besides his hair is cool.!!!!
Re: Where is the realism? Kansas City's midfield has been a graveyard for players who are "real" ballers. Players who show flash, hustle, and talent in training, then suck for 90 minutes on game day. Chris Brown has all the talent in the world. Just ask him. But seriously, he's great. It's awesome watching his skill in practice. But he sucks eggs on gameday. I've watched countless Guatemala and Galaxy games with Pando. He looks like he should kick ass. But other than one kick in those countless games, I've never seen him deliver his promise. Yeah, you won the Cup. He gets and A for Timing, but unless he's willing to start at around $40k, I'm not particularly interested. Like anything in MLS, it's all about tradeoffs. If he wants SI money, I'd take a pass. If he wants end of the bench money with a chance to earn a raise, then I really can't complain. Every MLS team, due to salary cap constraints, has to "make do" with some less than preferable or "project" players.
Re: Where is the realism? So the Galaxy fans are saying that if Pando was not on the left, and instead played centrally he'd have been a better player. But I then look at the article, and at the beginning of the 5th paragraph, it talks about where he would play. This is the key word in that sentence "izquierda" which if my Spanish isn't too bad, means left. So Onalfo would see him on the left side, the same position Sampson had him on.
Re: Where is the realism? And if we're paying a transfer fee of $270k, that's way too much, and it also means he'll likely be making more than $40k. Ugh.
I just like how the big South American scouting trip has, thus far, resulted in rumors of 2 players who have already spent time in MLS. (One of which was in the US last year also.) Wow... you traveled 5000+ miles for that?
The big Argentina trip, and yet we've only heard about a couple of catrachos that Onalfo would've faced in CONCACAF time and time again. I'm guessing the CONMEBOL stuff will come later.
Bah.. stupid geography. Previous statement is withdrawn, due to the fact that I clearly have no idea where Guatemala is.
This is exactly right. We've been discussing this on a Guatemalan Players Abroad thread. Pando has been played off the National team just like Loco. Neither were even called in for the UNCAF nations cup training camp!?! Pando has also been playing left midfield for Municipal all year. He looked simply average for them and this is the Guatemalan league. The problem is that the Guate press has a history of making news out of rumors. Municipal has been actively shopping both Loco and Pando around because they don't need either player and they have bigger reputations in the US then in Guate. When they start talking to teams the news story goes from having spoken to MLS to "the team is interested". My suspicion is that Municipal got someone on the phone and proposed this deal. Now it is considered to be in playby the press eventhough it may not be. This happened last year with Pando and Loco, as well as with Plata, Pezzarossi, Contreras, Sandoval and Villatoro. Each has been linked publicly as "close" to an MLS side and none have even been brought in on trial.
