Will you be going to this match , and what are your hotel/ travel plans?

I will be there with two of my friends , so I will start looking for a hotel for the night of the 7th.

Im planning on leaving the morning of the seventh , and coming home the following day.

Yes!!!! I'll be there with a bunch of people. I live on the east side of Phoenix. If you are going to stay in town, get a room in Avondale or Goodyear. It will be the easiest place to get a cheap room and be no more than 15 min. from the stadium.

There is no info yet on the Sams Army section , but it will be best for all of us to be in the same section , since we will most likely be outnumbered.

The tickets start at 28 dollars , so that will most likely be the price for the supporters section.

I will have a 20x30 USA flag for this match also ,thanks to the Tri Soccer Fanatics .

I cant wait for this match !

Why are articles saying University of Phoenix stadium?

Is that what the Cardinals stadium is called?

Yes, U of P Stadium hosts Cardinals games, the Fiesta Bowl, and January's BCS Bowl.

Oh, and USA - Mexico also!

In fact if you go to nfl.com, Cardinals, Stadium, you get info on US-Mex!

It's time to visit my brother in Phoenix!!! :D

Anyone know if U.S. Soccer is offering a pre-sale for their supporters (I forget what the little e-mail blast club is called)?

Who the hell wants to sit on the field? You can't see sh*t...such an American thing to do.

I do not believe that they did. I only recieved the email announcing the match, with public tickets going on sale Tuesday. If they are going to announce a pre-sale, they did not leave themselves much time. But you could order tickets and sit with Sams's Army. Check this link for info to be posted.

The Sam's Army webpage is not offering tickets for the Mexico game but says "Ticket info to be posted soon."

The pattern in the last 18-24 months has been for the USSF to offer tickets to the general public before any confirmation is given concerning tickets for Sam's Army or U.S. Supporters. Usually, a supporters' section is offered AFTER the public sale is well underway. With this schedule, many of the most dedicated fans have already bought tickets. This undermines the viability of the movement when the hard core end up being dispersed around the stadium.

It may well be this is the way the USSF wants to end the tradition of a loud supporters' section, while maintaining plausible deniability of its intentions. It also may come from the sponsors, who want us out and want to cater to children and women, their target audience. Quite simply, if we can't get tickets together there is not much point in other organizational activities. Any possibility of countering the huge Mexican fan base at the game is destroyed by the ticketing policies that disperse the hard core.
I started a thread about 2 years ago "Phoenix Travel Tips" when there were press reports of a national teeam game in Phoenix. I can't use the archive function but I recall there were some good posts there, in addition to my usual review of the local youth hostel. I think the hostel in Phoenix is pretty bad but it is cheap.

I feel the need to warn you guys though, that the UoP Stadium has a LOT of stupid rules!!!! I recently called the Stadium to see if the rules were for Cardinals games only or if they applied to ALL events there, the girl who answered my call was very sweet, but did not know, she told me to call in January to find out what the rules were. I know from experience though that Big flags are forbidden at Cardinal Games, I hope not for this. I also know that if the Stadium has the same retards do security that do security for the NFL games we're all in for a long frustrating night! the company that does security for the Cardinals games is a company called S.A.F.E. and they somehow feel the need to keep telling people to sit in their seats and have kicked fans out for standing too long!! I hope that we will have a different scenario come Feb 7th. because this is a rare opportunity to see US play MEX and I can't wait!!

Galaxian, thank you for your efforts. At a minimum, we should have a big flag at every national team game.
I am quite sure the Mexican fans will be bringing flags and banners and the security will have to allow them in (as they should), no matter what the NFL rules are. I just hope American fans are accorded the same rights on American soil.
There have been many threads about the hostility of US stadium security to silly things like flags, standing during the game and so on. We have not made any progress in this regard and the USSF could do more at least about this. They got permission to rent the stadium didn't they?
From a security standpoint it makes a lot of sense to segregate the fan groups if possible. This is the way they do it in Mexico City and every other soccer town worth its salt. So the USSF's failure to offer Sam's Army/US Supporter tickets is disappointing.
    My two cents.

Well, I got my tickets, Section 209 Row 1!!!! I've been waiting for a match down here in the Valley since I showed up in 2001. I can't wait!!

Regarding UofP Stadium (such an unfortunate sponsor name) security, I know that they were trained somewhat before the Club America -Chivas match a few weeks ago which attracted 40,000+ Mexican league fans. Anyone here go to that one? Hopefully they have gotten adjusted to normal football behavior after that match.

Anyway, last time I saw this rivalry was US-Mexico at Foxboro almost a decade ago; the double header with Revolution-Tampa Bay. A great time, especially after we scored a couple of Sam Adams beers from a couple of poor guys who were really desperate for a bottle opener :).

    Cheers All!!!

60/40 sounds a little generous o us US fans :)

How was security at the America-Chivas match? The english language papers obviously didn't report anything about it, except for the attendance and the score.

    Cheers.

Thanks for the feedback :) (OK, where do I get the graphical emoticons??)

I guess my ultimate question is how much security allowed standing, singing, cheering, flag waving, banners over the edge,... you know typical futbol behavior...

I know it's a cliche, but I've been known to scream out a little "Ole, Ole" once in a while at a match here and there (and I know my daughter will too :)). OK, OK, last time was when Solskjaer was coming in to play against Celtic in 03.

I can't wait for some real football!!

    Cheers,

    TcDad

    From http://www.azcardinals.com/stadium/stadium_location.php

    Banners & Signs
    · Cardinals fans are encouraged to show their support and may bring handheld signs to Cardinals Stadium, provided they are football related and in good taste as determined by Cardinals Stadium security. Signs cannot be commercial, political or obscene in nature. Signs may not be affixed or hung anywhere in Cardinals Stadium or displayed in a manner that obstructs other fans' views of the game or stadium scoreboards/advertising signage. The signs must be made of a paper or lightweight cloth like material. Signs cannot utilize wood, metal or similar types of materials for support. Maximum dimensions of a sign are three feet by two feet.

    Is a flag a sign?
