Default Striker rotation...

OK...I was thinking about this throughout the whole match this morning. Do we really need to start the exact same strikers every game?? I think, know, that it would be a good thing to rotate them and keep everybody rested and fresh. Obviously Owen is the best striker we have, but there's no reason to make him play ever single game. We have plenty of players that are capable of scoring goals from that position. We could even play a 4-5-1. There is no need to keep denying Baros and Litmanen. I just keep forseeing Owen or Diouf getting injured, and all of a sudden we're forced to play a notsoready Baros, Litmanen or Heskey (who, by the way, should be competing with Riise for left winger now, forget playing as a striker anymore).

Thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Baros ? How can you say he isn't getting his chances when the season is only 2 games old ? Do you mean Biscan possibly who GH loves to over look.

As for Heseky not being ready... I'm not too sure on where that would come from. I personally think Emile belongs at the striker role instead of the midfield but Emile plays the wing well enough that we aren't lossing much with playing out there. Jari could replace Emile easily and Jari is a step above Emile, however Emile is one of GH's boys so I don't see that move ever happening.

The striker role has always been rotated , probably more so in ast few years then we will see this year. This year our depth at the forward spot is a little lighter then last year so I don't for see much rotation up top.

The midfield is probably going to be a make or break situation for some of us LFC fans. Personally I think our depth in the midfield is unmatched in the EPL. However GH loves to play favorites so the rotation policy is going to be a bit rough. I was happy too see Smicer and Bernard get a chance to run for a few minutes today...let's hope this trend continues. Although I just don't see GH giving any where near equal time to those who are on the outside looking in ( Berger, Smicer, Biscan ).

The season is very early and cup play has yet to begin..... so let's give GH some time and see how well he handles the rotation.

Heskey has been great for us though, he plays any role on the pitch and usually does it well enough that you tend to forget who the normal starting player is.

Yea, perhaps I am being WAY early on this...but I can't think of a match in recent memory that Owen hasn't started. You're right. Let's wait.

Default Striker rotation...

But that's the eternal conundrum. A striker needs a run of games to get into the scoring groove. So if you are constantly messing about with your starting pair, then all five available strikers are denied the chance to get that crucial momentum going. Far better to select your best options and stick with them for a proper run.

Jari Litmanen and Milan Baros will get chances to play. But they are both on the second tier of the squad's composition. That's just the way it is.

Also bear in mind that GH experimented with rotation of the midfield at this stage of last season and it went badly wrong. We lost crucial games (such as the one at home to Villa and the Worthington Cup tie against Grimsby) which we should have won because the midfield failed to settle.
