Default All region DVD player...

I'm thinking about making this my next big purchase, but dont really want to spend tons, considering I'll have to anyway when I buy imported DVD's. Does anyone have any recommendations, expected prices, best places to shop, etc, etc??

Find 10 DVD players you like in the stores that aren't region free players.

Write down the model numbers.

Take that list home and check those numbers to this site:

http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdhacks.php...l+Alphabetical

Choose one of the players that has hacks on that site.

It's way cheaper than being a sucker and spending a lot of cash on an advertised region free player.

Is it that much more for a region-free player?

Here there's no real difference. And oddly, all the bottom end models seem to be region-free too.

Here in god's chosen land, region-free DVD players proper are somewhat expensive. However, you can pay less than seventy bucks for one and hack it once and it's the same thing.

I don't see why anyone would buy a region-free proper player.

Determine what you need a player for.
Find ones that have those features.
Compare them on the site I listed.
Buy the cheapest one they have.

Don't get progressive scan unless you have a high definition television or if it's a feature on a player you already had at the top of your list even if it wasn't on there. Progressive scan is a tool to get ignorant people to shell out more money for something they can't use.

I'd say that's somewhat true. It's a nice feature - if you can actually take advantage of it.
