You gotta love those pre-game comments by the jerrie's.
Especially the one by Carsten janker..

"WE DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT SINGLE PLAYERS LIKE MICHAEL OWEN OR EMILE HESKEY. WE HAVE A STRONGER TEAM AND THAT IS WHAT COUNTS" "Carsten Jancker

Default England Euro Champs 2004

The tragedy of English football is that all those decades of regular defeat to Germany have not taught them how to win gracefully. Instead there is an outpour of pent-up scorn, inferiority complexes and delusions of grandeur, as soon as England beat a German team on "one of those nights". From that point onwards, these matches are misused by the english fans and media as proof for the fact that Britannia rules the waves once again and all should tremble before her.

In 30 years time, English kids will still be watching that 5-1 video and fail to realize that in all likelihood it will have turned out to be far more their loss than that of the Germans, because the mere fact that they are still watching the same video points to an absence of *real* triumphs when it mattered. Just like what happened after '66 *sigh*...

Meanwhile, of course, the world moves on, while England dream of winning the World Cup while crashing out of yet another tournament at the "thanks-for-coming" stage. No matter, you can always pop down the video store...

I have a lot of time for England, both in footballing terms and beyond, but this self-destructive nostalgia will prevent England from winning anything until you shed this psychological baggage. Forget the Germans, you are not nearly as big a deal to them as they are to you, you're just watching Groundhog Day over and over again.
