I think they are good bet for the top 2 and auto promotion...West Ham weakened itself and that helps also...

cup match vs Birmingham should be interesting.

I was disspointed that sunderland couldn't score a second goal at home. Arca was the only midfielder creating.

I thought we did well in midfield, but it was mainly just containing Birmingham. I was disappointed that Thornton didn't get on for the last 10 minutes. I think the problem with Arca is he is sometimes too creative for the rest of the team to benefit from him..

It was great. Sunderland ouytplayed Birmingham so much without being able to score that I was worried Birmingham would win in the last minute. Gary Breen was magnificent though at marshalling the defence, and the confidence that having Poom in goal gives the team is notable. Generally the team played Birmingham off the pitch, Julio Arca was amazing, his partnership with McCartney (who played the end of regulation time and all of extra time injured) reminds me of Magic Johnstone and Mickey Gray. We did lack a cutting edge and if Sunderland do get promoted a new striker is a must. Still Kyle worked hard all night and his shot was saved but Tommy Smith put the rebound in to go 1-0 up and then in the second half of extra time it was Kyle's pass that set Smith away to score. Fantastic, now for Sheffield United:-)

Todays game at home against Norwich has been called off due to bad weather. Next up is Walsall away on Tuesday.

Just in case there is even slight interest in Sunderland AFC here:

The Walsall game was postponed for 24 hours because they're pitch was frozen so the game was played last night. The 1st half was very poor apart from Arca who played at left back and scored the only goal of the 1st half. Best non-Premiership player in England IMO. The 2nd half was slightly better. Walsall equalised (Neil Emblen) and Sunderland went 2-1 in front less than a minute later through Kevin Kyle who had earlier hit the crossbar. Sunderland wrapped it up when Marcus Stewart converted Jason McAteer's corner. A comfertable win from Sunderland who never really came close to playing at their best.

good victory, they are going to have to play (and win most) a ton a xtra matches due to postponments and the cup run...

I hope they can get into the top 2 and avoid the playoff roulette...

agreed, Arca is sunderland's best player.
