Re: Philadelphia Union (Debate) I'm really starting to think this name would work. The branding would have to be carefully handled and more aligned with the Federal Union than the Labor Union in my opinion. I can imagine us chanting Union.
Re: Philadelphia Union (Debate) too bad first union bank isn't around anymore. that would have been a tailor-made sponsorship.
Re: Philadelphia Union (Debate) I feel that it's to similar to United and Crew, and does not help create a unique identity/brand for the team. Getting away from the labor aspect of the name, the team is a union of what exactly? I still think Alliance is a better choice, in that it represents all of the parties (State, County, Cities, Elected Officials, Investors, and Fans) needed to pull this off. For me, Union is a no go.
Re: Philadelphia Union (Debate) why on earth would the "sons of ben" want to support Union, sounds to much like supporting a "labor" union(which are lame).
Re: Philadelphia Union (Debate) it's the least offensive on the list. I could deal with it if it is chosen, but i don't want to settle for something i don't feel good about.
Re: Philadelphia Union (Debate) I am supporting the Federal Union aspect, not Labor Unions. It is a nice way to recognize the history without everyone having to dress in tricorn hats like a New England Bills fan.
Re: Philadelphia Union (Debate) I'm fairly indifferent to Philadelphia Union. The branding of the team, though, needs to be very clear in its attempt to say the connection is not related to labor Unions.
Re: Philadelphia Union (Debate) Yeah, I'm turning around on this one. If the branding is correct and very strong from the start it could really work.
Re: Philadelphia Union (Debate) I think it's the best compromise of the four options and the one most likely to appeal to a variety of fans. I am disappointed that this was cohsen over Alliance, which evokes the same concepts but is more distinct and has a better backstory (USS Alliance/Commodore Barry).
Re: Philadelphia Union (Debate) If we're going the Civil War route, then Union leaves plenty of room for an organic nickname for the team, as well. The Washington & Philadelphia Brigades both were made up entirely of Philadelphia soldiers during the Civil War, so you could easily have the Brigadiers of the Philadelphia Union Soccer Club.
Re: Philadelphia Union (Debate) Philadelphia Union Soccer Club works for me. Union Philadelphia may as well. My only concern mirrors what was said previously: it's close to United.
Re: Philadelphia Union (Debate) Pretty bland, brings up notions of the Crew, other than that I don't mind it at all. Definitely not the most exciting name, but if the branding is done well it could look world class. Oh and that PU (pee-you) thing is unacceptable haha
Re: Philadelphia Union (Debate) if the club crest makes it 100% clear that this is a nod to revolutionary times, then im all for this name, but as just a name on its own im still taking this second choice to city.
Re: Philadelphia Union (Debate) on second thoughts, i don't like union at all. i spent the first half of my life in the deep south and my relatives are all still down there too. i'll be the only SoB in grey if union is chosen.
Re: Philadelphia Union (Debate) I've liked Union from the start. With the right marketing, the whole "labor union" issue should never really come up, so long as the whole "keystone of the union" aspect is emphasized. And once that brand is established, it will be a done deal. I mean, people today don't wonder if the Cincinnatti Reds are affiliated with the Soviets. Then again, we may offend the many migrants from the Southern US who now reside in the Philadelphia area, whose forefathers were brutally defeated by that same "Union".
Re: Philadelphia Union (Debate) There is something I just don't like about union... it just doesn't roll of the tongue or something .... can't put my finger on it. For some reason it just doesn't do it for me.
Re: Philadelphia Union (Debate) It's got throwback era simplicity (ie. its not Diamondbacks or Raptors), blatant U.S.A. heritage tie ins, speaks of togetherness, is already in pro men's soccer with Union de Santa Fe in Argentina and it appears to have worked for them for generations. Now all your FO has to avoid screwing up is the city's colors. Good Luck. Just don't go with the Union over the Rebels thing. Us colonials were all rebels once. Ya know, it's in our blood to break away from the King if that be in London or D.C. Cool. Celt
