Default How will you celebrate New Years in your country?

When I used to live in Peru, it was a family affair. With a whole lot of food, and Pilsen. Good times.

Anything special about how you do new years in your country?

When I lived in Venezuela I would visit my family in "Falcon state" (big a.. family) My family would get together at my grandparents house and we would party all night long.

In the US. Well, I'm at work right now.

yup we would do the same thing, get together at my grandma's house, eat, listen to music, talk, laugh, cry, all that good stuff, then at 12.00 wish everyone a happy new years, then go out into the street to watch the aņo viejos burn....

here in US its different..

In Peru, we do some fun things.

We drink, Peruvian style. You know, tall ass beers in a circle. Serve yourself some beer. Pass the bottle. Finish the beer. Shake out the foam and backwash. Pass the glass to the person with the bottle. Repeat.

This is how we usually drink. In the US we all have our own six-pack and individual beers. Six-packs are popular in Peru, but there is nothing like sharing a case of Margaritos or Gabys. Dancing is a must. Lots of loud music. One year, I was break dancing and the next day the family called me Duracel because I was had "pilas" last night.

During the day, the kids get all the old clothes. They stuff them into an old shirt and pants. They make a life-sized doll. At midnight, we burn the doll in the middle of the street and shoot off firecrakers. The old is burned and we wear new clothes, especially yellow. This brings good luck.

At midnight, we also kiss everyone and say happy new year and all that. We also eat 12 grapes and throw 12 coins, like pennies, into the street, for good luck and more money in the new year.

One of the most curious traditions some follow is the "trip" around the block. Folks will pack a suitcase and run around the block. This is to bring good luck and a trip/travel sometime in the new year.

It is a family deal until after midnight.

After midnight we go to some parties or clubs. Don't expect to go home until the next morning/afternoon. That's when a good Chilcano, levantamuerto, does the trick.

By far, the greatest tradition ever. I can't tell you how many nights I spent with friends in front of my house in San Miguel doing that. It really is a great experience, great conversation, and after that you break out the soccer ball and play "mete gol tapa"

I got my firecrackers here from florida, and dallas has a ban on fire works for yrs... My neighbor is a Cop and promess to look the other way if I did not over do (the noise and the grass is all dry, bad case for a possible fire)

do you guys make up the nativity scene? I have a bunch of stuff for the good old PESEBRE, but never as pretty as the one my Mom put together back in medallo.
