They dont call themselves the "Toons".

The word Toon is Geordie for town. For example, when someone says "We are going into town", someone with a striong Geordie accent would say "Toon".

Its just a thing the media picked up on and labelled our fans the "Toon Army".

Also, Toon is alot easier to fit on the back page of the Newspapers, and since we keep making the headlines these days, it is alot easier for everyone!!

It's "Toon." No "s."

"Toon" is how Geordies (local Newcastle-area folk) pronounce the word "town." This is also why Newcastle Brown Ale is the "Broon ale."

1) " ganning doon the toon" ( Going into the centre of Newcastle, where pubs are numerous )

2)" gannin doon the coast " ( Going to the Whitley Bay/ Tynemouth area , where pubs are numerous )
