Re: Who's to Blame???
Difficult to answer. Wolves played well against some of the upper EPL teams and then not well against lower teams. The defense was rock solid early on and then quickly stumbled. Wolves on defense struggled mightily, they conceded goals from far out and their defenders never got back quick enough to prevent goals. It was tough to watch. Hopefully they can correct this and make some strides to regain their form.

Re: Who's to Blame???
i think the board are to blame for not acting quickly enough to get new signings after we got promoted to the premiership. we acted too slowly and as a result had a poor start to the season, and never recovered from there.

Re: Who's to Blame???
The fact that Wolves did not go out and pay lucractive salaries to players and yet still played well in the Premiership means that they have no debt for next season. I would hope they can now sign a few players and compete at a very high level next season and carrying forward.
Any idea how the Board operates, how do they go about choosing players, does the manager make recommendations?

Re: Who's to Blame???
player signings can be complicated. the manager dave jones will have an idea of players he wants to sign. this will by having watched them play against wolves, gone to other football matches, having the clubs scouts watch players, or through players agents approaching the club. of course the amount of money available dictates players the club can sign. if the manager wants to sign a player he will tell the board who will then ok it (they can overrule and refuse to try and sign the player if they think he is not worth the money or not right for the club - you dont really hear of this happening very much though). generally, the board and the chief executive will then approach the club the player is playing for and enquire as to whether the player is available, or will ask for permission to speak to the player and his agent, and try to negotiate a deal, which may then result in the player signing for the club. i think if the player is out of contract with a club or is coming to then end of his contact with a club, then there is no need for the board to approach the club he is playing for and can go directly to the player and his agent.

Re: Who's to Blame???
What about scouting out young talent? Seems to me that the teams would want to remain competitive obviously need to create a solid core of young players and if possible let them play together for a few seasons. Seems to have been the case with some of the Premier teams. If Wolves can maybe get a player with potential and slowly groom him for future action. I am not certain if they have players like this on their roster all ready.
Aside from picking up new talent I think you are right in that perhaps Wolves will attempt to sign several role players who can contribute quickly.

Re: Who's to Blame???
Yes, teams need to scout out young players and talent, but Wolves do not have the luxurious funding of teams such as Man Utd and Chelsea to do that at the highest level. Unfortunately, in my eyes at this point, Wolves is a middle team for a lot of players. If they come and play there, it is in hope of it launching their careers to play for a bigger Premiership team. In addition, finding players who are willing to play Division 1next year rather than in the Premiership will be interesting. There are many players who will play, but there are always some who think they deserve to be in the Premiership. I am not specifically referring to any current Wolves players but about players in general out there they might be eyeing for next year.

Re: Who's to Blame???
Good point. I tend to think players who are competitive want to play for the upper level teams they think it advances their careers and of course it gives them increased recognition.
Wolves should be allright. They won some games here at the end of the season if they can continue it and get on a roll they can stand head and shoulders against other Division One opponents. Which I think will happen.
It is the nature of the economics that the Wolves will not have the revenue and resources to remain viable with teams like Man U and Chelsea. That is why if they can have a great evaluator of player talent and can allocate thier funds wisely they should prosper.
Let's see what happens it certainly will be interesting.
