Designed by jewelers Tiffany’s & Co. since 1999, the trophy is 24” tall and has a base of 4 ⅝”. It incorporates the styles from the previous two versions of the award, which was done to honor where the league has been, with the new incarnation representing the future.
The cup also features a map at the base, with a star signifying every MLS city.

Here is another story from OCS.

The Philip F. Anschutz championship trophy is 24" tall with an additional seamless base of 4 5/8". The trophy features fluid and dynamic handles that include 11 facets on the front and back, symbolizing the 22 players that participate in a soccer match. The gold star represents the championship club, which often incorporates a star into its team crest for each MLS Cup title it wins. The new trophy inherits select design elements from the previous two trophies, thereby honoring the League's history while moving forward. The bottom of the Philip F. Anschutz trophy features a map of North America, with a star identifying the location of each MLS market.
|
The trophy will go on a tour of the MLS playoffs and be in Houston as part of some sort of fan event on November 8.

Anyone heard anything about this? Are they going to do a play-off rally of some kind? I can't remember if they did that before or not, but for some reason I think they did.

What did Alan I. Rothenberg do to get his name taken off the trophy? Poor guy, I feel sorry for him.

Isn't that the name of the AEG owner? Sounds like a kiss ass move to me by Garber and Co.
I would respect a name change more if they just named it after Lamar Hunt , the man that deserves two cups named after him.

since Philsy help to keep the league afloat in the early days buy operating 4 franchises and losing more money than the Dow Jones in recent days-I think renaming the cup after him isn't really kissing ass
more of thanks for getting us through that dark time with your cash.
