I was hoping he'd go and play in Norway. IMO Marco was the classiest player in the Bundesliga for many years. I have nothing but respect for the guy. On the other hand, it's good that he displayed the foresight to retire while in his prime following a good World Cup showing.

Agreed. I was a bit surprised that Bode couldn't find a club, but perhaps his wage demands were too high.

No, he had offers of several Bundesliga clubs (e.g. Schalke), but after spending all his career in Bremen he didn't like the idea of dressing against them some day. I don't know why the foreign negotiations failed, but it's definitely a pity that he stops playing. Players with a character like his are hard to find (and very oddly Bremen is a place where such players can be found relatively often, e.g. Rune Bratseth, Wynton Rufer).

Too bad. He was a player that I always liked. I remember reading once that he avoided military service by claiming conscientious objector. I believe he did some kind of civil service instead.
Not too bad, though, to be retired by 33.

I don't wanna reduce the honor for Marco Bode, but about 50% do civil service instead of army though civil service lasts three months longer (so did I as well).

Not anymore. Now it lasts only one month longer. I will start my civil service in two weeks (which means that i will miss a lot of Eintracht's home games this year ).

Why? What are you doing? I was in a youth hostel about 150 km from Gütersloh and only every second weekend was free - but I cared for not missing a single of FCG's home games.
Since when does it last only months longer? I thought some law determined the three months more rule. Probably our current government did one reasonable law in four years and I'm not profitting from it - that's hard .

Care for handicapped persons. The working days (including weekends) will differ from month to month, but i will try to go to as much games as possible.
