Latest on Werder:
- they found a main sponsor. At least several firms are interested, a decision will be dropped next week. Werder was the last team without main sponsor.
- demands back the 3M transfer fee for Angelos Charisteas. They agreed on a contract in winter for this sum, but Aris Saloniki did not pay Charisteas' salary for a couple of months. He sued and got the permission to leave the team, which means that in the moment of the transfer he wasn't an employee of Saloniki anymore and therefore they can't demand a transfer sum. As Werder already paid, it might be a welcome income for them - maybe directly forwarded to Lorenzo Romagnoli.

Marco Bode announced to not sign a new contract anywhere. After negotiations with Fulham failed, Rosenborg couldn't afford him and he doesn't want to play Bundesliga again ("The topic Werder is done, but I can't imagine to dress for another team in the league"). Too early career end for a player with one of the strongest characters I know.

No, it means because of their contract status (probably amateur status in Germany), they can't play in the cup match.

Yes, Aris is right. Maybe little explanation to the cup competitions: at the bottom you got a county cup with all local teams (D4 and lower) participating. Depending on the federation rules some teams make it to the federation cup in the next year (qualified county cup teams and D3 teams participating). The federation cup is the qualifier for the national cup competition of the next season.
In this case Bremen is a very small state with not exactly numerous teams, which means that the county cup also is the federation cup (that's why Werder Ama as D3 team is participating). I think in Bremen only one team qualifies for the DFB-Cup and - oh wonder in this federation - Werder Ama are anually qualified (btw. meet Bayern Munich in the first leg).
As this competition in Bremen is a mere amateur competition, all pros and semi-pros are excluded. These three mentioned in the article are having such a semi-pro status. It would be more correct to say that they are pros who mainly play for the reserves, but the outcome is the same.
