Music
What are you listening to?
If you're feeling depressed about the Toon, I'd recommend the new Cold War Kids album. It's getting shite reviews because it's not as upbeat and catchy as the first album, but I like it. Really chilled out and bluesy. Relaxing, even.

Re: Music
Current Newcastle United mood music:
The Lemonheads - Rudderless
Idlewild - Modern Way of Letting Go
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Not What You Wanted.
Muse - Time is Running Out.
I'd throw some Radiohead on there, but with my current mood about NUFC I'd probably go for a bath and take the toaster with me.

I've heard the Idlewild and Muse songs. Very appropriate.
As for Radiohead, some Newcastle United mood music would be:
-Sulk
-Nude
-Videotape
-Street Spirit (Fade Out)
-There There
-Down is the New Up
-Let Down
-Exit Music (For a Film)
-How to Disappear Completely

Re: Music
How about Frédéric Chopin's Piano Sonata No. 2 in B-flat Major, Op. 35 - "Funeral March"

Re: Music
Let me get obscure - for truley depressing, and therefore currently appropriate, stuff you need to check out Richard Thompson. Its crime that no one knows who he is - one of Rolling Stone's top 50 guitar players of all time, award winning songwriter, used to jam with Hendrix in London, still no one knows him. My name on here, in fact, is the title of one of his songs about a guy who kills his girlfriend during a psychotic episode.
Anyway, appropriate songs would include:
Drowned Dog, Black Night
Killing Jar
Shoot Out the Lights
When the Spell is Broken
Walking Through A Wasted Land
I still Dream
Wall of Death
Special mention to "Put Her There Pal", for the following lyric which I dedicate to Ashley,
"Some say you're a rattlesnake in the grass,
But I say that the sun shines out of your arse".

I went to see him at the Sage last year. Did a lot of the stuff off his newest album - explained the meaning of a few songs too. "Dad's gonna kill me" being about how soldiers shorten Baghdad to Dad. He's f*cking amazing on an acoustic too. Being a guitarist myself I'm into sh*t like that.

Re: Music
I mess around with the guitar too - I think you have to play yourself to really appreciate how incredible the great ones are. I've seen RT several times over the years, both electric and acoustic, and I am more amazed every time at what he does. Glad to find a fellow fan!

I always think lists like that are pretty stupid. They always either focus on technique or uniqueness or how many records they sold. Although having a look at Rolling Stone's list now ...Kurt Cobain at no. 12! (I was a Nirvana fan too) Jack White at no. 17???
Why no Robbie Robertson in the top 25? (he caned Clapton on "Further on up the road" on The Last Waltz) Chuck Berry is higher than Jimmy Page?!
The Edge is a pile of wank who has no business being on there at all.

Finally... Someone loves Robbie Robertson!!! You just made my day. The Band is my favorite group of all time and Robbie gets no respect. He was playing blues revival long before Robert Johnson was released in 1961 and the Rolling Stones etc, jumped on the bandwagon. Still, I think Richard and Garth are the best in the Band.
Jimmy Page is good technically, but Chuck Berry was a pioneer. It is a close battle, but my preference is Chuck Berry.
