#3 would be Guzan- he's going to be with the US team for a long time.

Just curious, how often has a #3 keeper gotten minutes in a WC match?

Re: US Goalkeepers: Howard's 1, Guzan's 2, Who's 3?
I actually see an issue in our keeper pool right now. I think the days of keller, fridel and even meiola are gone. In the sense that you on any day you could not state who was number one and who was number two. Where as now there is a gulf between Tim and Guzan. And Guzan still needs a lot of work, and I do not truely believe that he is the real number 2. Plus factor in his playing time at AV... If I had to rank it
1)Tim
2) Maybe Marcus Hahnemann.
3) there are a lot of people for this spot, Guzan, Rimando, Cannon, Reis, Perkins, Hesmer, and Busch. Hell even Kellar.
Though I think in the long run Hesmer is going to be a better keeper than Guzan. I think Guzan is more athletic, but I also think hesmer is fundamentally better. But this may just be a product of Guzan being a converted keeper and has only been playing the position of a few years. So with the proper coaching that may change.
But for those of you that missed this you should take a look at it, its an interesting way to look at our current keeper pool(in MLS anyway).

Also, according to the YA threads, there has been interest from Norway in Perkins. He's been playing quite well over there. It woulnd't shock me if Bradley brought him over to prevent the loss of this player to another nation. It doesn't look like we'll need him in the long term, but you never know how players (and especially goalkeepers) develop over the years. In fact, it wouldn't shock me if we cap the guy if we've already qualified.

I both agree and disagree with you here. I agree that this is a preemptive call-up so that Norway can't cap Perkins. Their keeper situation is terrible and Perkins could likely start for them as soon as he could get a passport. He hasn't been lights-out good in the Tippeliga this year, but there aren't even that many Norwegian keepers in the league.
I disagree that Bob not wanting to take an MLS keeper away in the playoff race played a huge factor. If that were a big factor, he would not have called in Perkins. Norway is also at the very end of the season and Vålerenga is fighting not to be relegated. Unless he just cares a lot more about not pissing off MLS managers, it seems like the situations are identical.
Edit: Obviously, though, Perkins won't miss any actual games with VIF b/c Norway breaks for the FIFA dates. But, traveling to the US and Trinidad is just as bad.

Re: US Goalkeepers: Howard's 1, Guzan's 2, Who's 3?
Guzan is a good keeper, but if he's not getting any games with Villa why should he be our #2?
It's nothing against Guzan, but I think goal keeping is all about practice and confidence. If he's not playing in meaningful games I think we should shelf him until the next cycle.

Re: US Goalkeepers: Howard's 1, Guzan's 2, Who's 3?
guzan will play against t&t on oct 15...
his bejing matches were fine....
howard is clearly number 1, and there ain't anyone who's pushing guzan for number 2....
guzan is in a superior training environment, and hapless play versus t&t and guatemala might be the only way we start thinking about his relative lack of match time for his club

Right now Seitz will be overtaken by two college goalies, Perk and MacMath. Simply put, Seitz not finding a game and doing terrible in the three games he played has hurt him. I put Quentin Westberg ahead of him.
As for Perkins; why not bring him in?
Most Americans felt he was a contendor for the number 3 GK position?

6 players with a US passport have started games in the English Premier League. Guzan is not one of them.
Can you name them? Here is one clue, he started 38 games last year and 38 the season before in the premiership.

Actually, there are 9. Just did some checking and discovered three I was not aware of.
Great call on Myhill, he has enjoyed a fine season with Hull and also on the Wales MNT.
