Arg 3 x 0 Brz: Si No Hay Perros, Se Caza Con Gatas...
Quem não tem cão, caça com gato.
The old Brz proverb fits as a glove.
(In English, it means: 'if you don't have a dog, chase with your cat').
Argentina 3 x 0 Brazil might have given the false impression to the world that the glorious 5-time World Champion canarinhos' Olympic hopes in China were footballistically shattered.
WHAT A TERRIBLE MISTAKE.
Everybody knows that specially in the Olympic Games no country can consider itself complete in ANY modality if it doesn't consider the other half of the world, precisely the one that produced the Messi's, the Ronaldos, the Pibes and the ‘Blond Arrows’, the Cruyjffs and Platinis, the Pelés and Garrinchas - the extraordinary feminine world.
In a competition of such high level they divide the glories with their less populous counterpart: Isinbayeva and Asafa Powell, Shawn Johnson and Kobe Bryant, Kournikova and Rafael Nadal, etc etc.
And, in 2008, to Brazil luck, if our men happened to fail, we were the only ones among the world football powerhouses that could count on our women to save our reputation (with the exception of Germany – but those, poor, after their last game are until now looking for Marta & Co and asking each other what was really the colour of the ball).
A superpower in a sport is a nation that historically dominates both men’s and women’s sides: like U.S. in basketball.
Something that just in the last years Brazil really became – and, what a happy coincidence – right when we commemorate 50 years of world dominance.
Probably the only real world football superpower ever.
Not because of the men: because of the…girls.
Nothing more important than to be able to say: hey, our guys were (or have been) historically good in the sport - but ALSO our WOMEN.
If Argentina wins the gold in the man’s football tournament and Brazil does the same in the feminine – sorry Argies – you can be sure we’ll be rigorously tied at the end of the Beijing Games.
Who doesn’t have ‘he-dogs', also chases with ‘she-cats’! …

Well, the man has a good point. It is obvious that right now Argentina is better in men's futbol, and Brazil is better in women's futbol. If in his view that makes us even, then so be it.

No offence but I really can't see women's futbol as anything but a side dish at best, the real meal is in men's futbol. This is not meant as a sexist remark it is just obviously where the quality play is, period. 3-0 is all that I have to say .

Let's be logical - and put passions a bit aside.
What’s being in dispute is not a Man’s World Cup.
But the…2008 Beijing Olympics.
And the only thing that really counts in any Olympics is the medal's table.
Regardless the sex of their athletes.
Period.
Men's football is entitled to 1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze.
The same with women's football.
It doesn’t matter AT ALL for the Games if you consider men's football more important than women's.
For the organization of the tournament both are EQUALLY important.
At the end what decides is the colour of the medal in that determinate sport.
If we were to be subjective, as El Viejo Mathias wants (oh my, without at least explaining his reasons)…:

…we could also bring into discussion as a valid ‘sujective’ consideration the fact that Brazilian women lost the gold medal to defending Olympic Champion USA 1 x 0, after beating defending World Champion Germany 4 x 1.
And that it dominated both games, being only frustrated in the final by a muddy field (which always favours less technical teams) and a miraculous goalie.
And you?...
All you faced in the last 2 games (the most important) were a toothless Brazil whose players met in the airport 15 days ago, and an unranked Nigeria.
Ok, you beat us: but that earned you NOTHING - besides what we already got.
In the 2008 Beijing Olympics, in order for us to feel beaten by you, you'll first have to beat Nigeria (which by the way is nothing in the world scénarium) by at least a PKs decision.
And get the gold.
Then – and only then – you can commemorate.
But, if you lose to them – we’ll be at least tying with you ...
With salomonic justice: one silver each ...
__________________________________________________________
PS: That, of course, if we don’t beat Belgium and grab that bronze medal you guys despise so much…
Then it’ll be Brazil first (1 silver, 1 bronze), Argentina second (1 silver), and, at least as South American football is concerned, it’ll be us who will go back home commemorating…
What - independently of being side dish or real meal - will for sure be a quite enticing…DESSERT!

Re: Arg 3 x 0 Brz: Si No Hay Perros, Se Caza Con Gatas...
Blah, blah, blah pure hot air you are blowing my freind. Let's remember we are at BIGSOCCER.COM hence who cares about the rest of the Olympic events for that we can post in another thread, secondly I have nothing to defend myself for, my opinion of womens soccer stands. Thirdly, what a lame excuse to use that brazil did not care or that they sent a squad that was not ready, etc, etc, NEWS FLASH these are the olympics and even Argentina had team-mates whom never played together . It is not our fault that we have more talent hat has expereince in the Under 23 category. Fourthly Brazil wanted a gold bad, it was in the media, it was in Ronnies face after the match and Messi was nice enough to give him a hug.
Now you can come on here and try to be all smug with your little snide remarks and insult all you may it does not change the fact that the world just watched Argentina thouroughly beat Brazil at the worlds most popular and loved sport.
