Default Will the streak end in 2009?

I brought this up last year and many people were surprised by it, and since we are at the half way point this year and in the semi's in the Open Cup its time to bring it up again.

Since MLS started in 1996 there has NEVER been a season in which one of Chicago, DC, or LA has NOT won a major domestic trophy.

1996 - DC (MLS Cup, US Open Cup)
1997 - DC (MLS Cup)
1998 - Chicago (MLS Cup, US Open Cup) LA - (SS)
1999 - DC (MLS Cup, SS)
2000 - Chicago (US Open Cup)
2001 - LA (US Open Cup)
2002 - LA (MLS Cup, SS)
2003 - Chicago (US Open Cup, SS)
2004 - DC (MLS Cup)
2005 - LA (MLS Cup, US Open Cup)
2006 - DC (SS), Chicago (US Open Cup)
2007 - DC (SS)

2008- ?

Currently DC is the only club of the three in the USOC.

SS race is too close to call but all three are realisticly in the race

MLS Cup - anyone's guess but all three look like they should progress to the playoffs.

Amyone else find this stat surprising?

You must be mistaken. MLS doesn't have super clubs.

But they are. Since MLS started in 1996 there has NEVER been a season in which one of Columbus, NY, Chicago, DC, or LA has NOT won a major domestic trophy. It's a fact- you can look it up.

Let's see, there have been 36 of such trophies to win, and the three clubs have won 20 of them. . . is that right?

Add in San Jose and Houston and you have 5 more trophies (4 MLS Cups, 1 Supporters' Shield).

That leaves 16 trophies for the other 13 teams (Including Miami and Tampa Bay). 5 have never won one (Colorado, RNBY, Chivas, FSL, TFC) so the other 8 are averaging 2 each.

Yeah, but can any other team match the Revs perfect record in MLS Cups? I don't think so.
