Default Dagoberto Currimilla to DCU ?

Although there are a few posts about this 20 year old Chilean midfielder in the Baseless Speculation Thread, it certainly seems to have gone beyond the baseless part. There are enough decent Latino media sources reporting that a loan deal (via an Argentine management firm named Squadra) is in place with DC United and it seems as if he is taking Niell’s place on the senior roster (hence Soehn’s comments that Niell’s replacement is not necessarily a forward) and may prompt Quaranta to see more time as a forward if/when Currimilla would play in the first team. Could he be another U20 World Cup prospect to show some talent in MLS (similar to Gambians Nyassi and Mansailly in NE)?

Info:
Name: Dagoberto Alexis Currimilla Gomez
Nicknames: “Curri”, “Murci”, “Dago”
DOB: 12/26/87
Position: Right Midfielder
Height: 5’9”
Weight: 165 lbs.
Club: Huachipato (Chile)
Jersey #: 8
National Team: U20 (played in 2007 World Cup in Canada), 1 appearance with A Team (4/27/06 vs. New Zealand)

Stats:
2005 Apertura: 10 games – 2 goals
2005 Clausura: 17 games – 1 goal
2006 Apertura: 11 games – 0 goals
2006 Clausura: 8 games – 0 goals
2007 Apertura: 9 games – 0 goals
2007 Clausura: 8 games – 0 goals
2008 Apertura: 13 games – 0 goals
2008 Clausura (just started last weekend): 0 games – 0 goals
Total: 76 games – 3 goals

Sounds like its certainly gone past baseless speculation. Not the biggest player, but still a giant compared to Niell. Good to see the team going after a need (wide midfielder) through an inventive means that gives us wiggle room (the loan) if it doesn't work out, a la Niell. Would be nice to see Quaranta in Jaime's role, so we can actually have a Jaime not on life support come playoff time.

I hope he is as feisty as his Merovingian namesake. You didn't mess with old King Dagobert!

Goff pickin up the rumor too:

"Commenting on the club's decision to waive Argentine forward Franco Niell on Thursday, Soehn said, "We brought him with pretty high expectations to push for a starting spot, and unfortunately it didn't unfold like that." United will look to acquire a replacement soon, Soehn said, but it will not necessarily be a forward. A Latin American report has linked United with midfielder Dagoberto Currimilla, who started all six games for Chile at last year's Under-20 World Cup."

I think it will be a loan only...he's a good prospect that could be worth quite a lot in the future...

Since it's not on MLSRumors, it must be valid.
