Default Quarterfinal Matchups

Does anybody know which groups will be matched together in the quarters. Is it going to be A v B and C v D, I really hope not, its a little uneven if you ask me.

It looks like AvB and CvD for the quarters, but they keep teams from the same group away from one another in the semis.

Yes, it is all detailed here (warning, clicking that link will open a massive .pdf). The winner of A will play the B runner up, and so on. But the semifinals will pit (if all the favorites win), the winner of A vs. the winner of C, and B vs. D. That way if the runner-up of A beats the champion of group B, they will play either the group D winner or the group C runner up in the semifinals.

No two teams can play each other twice until the finals. Which is the better way to do it, in my opinion.

The UEFA only changed it because of a request from the coaches.

Why'd they want that? Seems like an odd request.

To adjust the resting times for the teams. With the new schedule there's only a day difference between the teams.

That does make a certain amount of sense. Though it's easier to buy into when you get a rematch as juicy as today's Russia v Spain semifinal...
