Default Germany vs. Russia

Would this final be as epic as I imagine?

I can't think of a similar sporting event pitting these two historical foes.

The national anthems will be a chilling event, and I would not be surprised to see the hammer and sickle make an appearance.

I can't imagine a bigger rivalry.

Well, I don't think we have a rivalry in football. And only the english yellow press (or nowadays the polish) uses the world war(s) to create some artificial rivalry.

true, also Germany and Russia have quite a good relationship nowadyas. Just look at Schröder and Putin ...

but from a footballing standpoint this propably would be a great match.

actually Germany and russia do their own thing these days, so there is no fresh motion that could be considered as a rivalry.

But there isnt necessarily friendship or respect instead, just indifference towards each other.
The days of Gorbatschow are long over and since Putin we dont realy feel connected with them anymore. Too much old sovjet style rattling with the chains. Kind of boring.

But anyhow, sports isnt about politics. The men playing for the team deserve their own special respect.

Well,

A good sporting rivalry, especially if Russia turns into an international soccer powerhouse, would transition the relationship to a healthy, warm, and respectful rivalry.

If the final ends up Spain versus Turkey, it will be your fault.

there are definitly no bad feelings towards russia in germany, no football rivalry thus in germany not anything special regarding those things.

Seriously ppl, WW2 is history and ppl have no reason for any grudges.

I said "would" as in a conditional -- I am not predicting in any way.

Thanks for the non negative-rep
