Which is the more successful team: Italy or Germany?
Italy has 4 World Cup Championships to Germany's 3, but Germany has been more successful in the European Championships; Germany has 3 Euro titles to Italy's 1. Additionally Germany has been to the championship games in both the Euros (5 to 2) and World Cups (7 to 7) than Italy.
So which is the more successful team over the ages?

(7 to 6), not (7 to 7)
Overall Germany are probably slightly ahead because of more trophies and more consistent performances.

I may be a German backer, but the answer is clearly Germany with very little thought needed.

The Germans.
Germany is also the most succesful side in Euro championships, followed by the NL and France.
The Netherlands have scored the most goals in Euro championships and have taken less games than the Germans to outscore them
We're just not much of a cupfighter.

This is what I found ( http://soccerlens.com/euro-2008-statistics/7632/):
These statistics do not include the EURO 2008 results so far, which means that the NL would be ranked 1 at this point.
Rank Nation P W D L F A Pts
1 Germany 32 15 10 7 45 32 55
2 Netherlands 28 14 8 6 45 28 50

Interestingly both have conceded exactly 1 goal per game (not including this tournament of course).

Re: Which is the more successful team: Italy or Germany?
I would say Germany , I don't put as much stock on the first 2 Italian World Cups.
The holders Uruguay as well as almost all South American Countries didn't bother to show up. It was basically a European championship with Brasil added. Besides I would be leary about any final played at the Stadium of the National Fascist Party
