Default Spain overconfident ?

See by yourself the Marca cover :

"We enlight (illumine ?) the whole world in Science, Economy, Food, Arts, Tennis, Basket ball, Formula one...

Now we want to be the best in football too.

THE NEW SPAIN
"

If you can't see the cover :

It's the same old story: I still have on my home pc the page of Marca after their first win in WC2006, when they trashed 4-0 some other nation.

That was Tuesday's cover before kickoff.

Today's...

On the right, in yellow lettering:

"Very nice but be careful because we haven't won anything yet"

There's nothing wrong with wanting to be the best in football, is there? After all, that's why those players from all 16 nations are competing.

spain is so overconfident and i dont see them as favorites. from what i have seen except of their great attackers they are nothing special. the key is to cut their midfield from feeding the attackers with the ball and sweden and russia didnt have that abilities.

Spain's inability to play long balls when necessary will really hurt them in the long run. As long as they insist upon passing amongst themselves to create a sequence that they think is worthy of a goal, IMO, they'll look as unimpressive as they did against Sweden. It was a long-ball shot off by Joan Capdevila in the 92nd minute that actually allowed Spain to win the match.

That being said, they've demonstrated considerable mental toughness in being able to pull off a win like the one against Sweden. More than anything, tenacity and mental strength differentiate champions from talented but impotent pretenders. It wouldn't shock me if Spain went all the way this year, but I've been saying that for about 10 years now, so I guess we'll just have to see.

Question: If Spain were to meet Italy or France in the quarterfinals, would you favor Spain's chances?

if Spain meet Italy, France or Romania (don't forget us, ok? ) they will surely be favourites, but i think they will lose in all 3 situations, probably at penalties. it's just my opinion.

If Spain meets any of those two teams in quarterfinals they will certainly loose couse those teams have ideal style of play and players to beat them(especially France). Playing with any other team on euro Spain has chances to win.

Lol, sorry, didn't mean anything by not including Romania. But I've always heard the argument that Holland would want to send one of Italy or France through to knock out Spain for them, so I wanted to see how valid that was.

IMO Spain will be thanking their lucky stars if France do not get through.
