There's a report on cbc.ca that Pellerud will step down from the Canadian WNT when his contract ends after the Olympics. The announcement is supposed to be made today.
Whoa. I didn't think Pellerud was EVER going to leave the Canadian NTs. Granted, Norway owes their one World Cup to him, and for that I'll be forever grateful, but he really should have left years ago.
This is highly debatable. Norway was already the best team in the world when Pellerud became their coach in 1989.
I see your point, but he didn't exactly send them spiraling down into a pit of failure, either. Pellerud made some very big decisions early in 95 that paved the way for Norway's success that summer.
Would any NCAA coaches be interested? I doubt if the CSA would want to pay the new coach as much as they paid Pellerud. The time demands of a NT position are lighter though.
Too bad he's not stepping down until after the Olympics... FCD needs a fresh coaching option right now.
I agree, it seems such a waste for his team to travel so far just to be embarrassed before the whole world. At the end he will be leaving with yet another failure to his credit. If he thinks that he will earn a gold medal the man is totally beyond hope. He should let the team have a real chance under somebody else coaching, even if it is on an interim basis.
Donzerly and toepunt. Why do you bother? If anyone should be embarrassed, it's you. I'd pay money to see you buffoons stand in front of the CWNT and spout your crap. They'd slap you silly - and it would be no less than you deserve.
I hope this is true. Many thanks to Evan for bringing the team up from obscurity, but its time for something new. Long ball hurts my common sense.
He was an excellent coach in his career. But i really think the loss to the united states killed his morale. Canada had better beat them evenually or every coach they ever have will lose there patience . He still had a strong job and i will miss him. Canada will have to find well to get a ideal replacment for Pellrud
Excellently said, yes i agree the canadian squad need someone to change the way this team is playing, even if they are an excellent team
