Default Curbishly Speaks 21 Aug.2003

A few interesting snippets:
"I’m definitely trying to bring in one more in before the transfer deadline on August 31st"

He than gave a hint as to what type of player that might be:
"At the end of last season I was saying that we need to stop letting goals in - if you looked at the teams around us we had scored as many if not more than those teams but had let more in - and we had tremendous problems with injuries to our centre-halves and we conceded a six and a four at home. We have to stop letting them in first and hopefully if we’ve got a bit more quality up front we can start sorting a few more."

I think he is looking for a defender.

About Cole/DiCanio:
If we end up playing Di Canio and Cole that’s fine, just the same as if we play Bartlett and Euell – it doesn’t matter, we just need results. I want to be in a position where everyone is under pressure.
The Di Canio/Cole partnership looks good on paper but we’ll have to wait to see if it works.”

Spoken like a true trainer... those who produce results will get the playing time.

Curbs keeps saying "just one more player." Why? Because he keeps bringing in players on free transfers. He hasn't spent his transfer budget.

I expect him to be bringing in another big central defender. With all of the injuries and suspensions that seem to happen to the central defense I sincerely doubt that they can never have too many center halves.

I have been amazed how much Curbishly has done with such a small transfer budget.
Holland - a steal at the price
Di Canio - Free
Cole - year loan

Three for one, not too shabby.

I think a defender is in the works. Can I dream of Carlos Bocanagara? That would increase the interest of the team at least here on Bigsoccer. Plus, Carlos is a great player.

And don't forget Hreidersson as well. They got him for 800,000 pounds.

All of those players put together cost less then their move for Gary Rowett.
