With the threads on Eddie Johnson and Will John leaving staying active, and Jermaine Hue playing tonight for Harbour View FC, it got me thinking about all the former Wizards, both in MLS and around the world. Figured it'd be kind of cool to keep a thread updated with what/where these players are. It's something that other team's forums do, and like the sheep game, thought would be something interesting to do, to talk about former Wizards, whether they were loved (Garcia) or hated (Walsh). Anyways, here's a list I have of former Wizards still playing that I'd come up with for a blog entry I did a while back. Feel free to add any that I forgot MLS: Nick Garcia - San Jose Jose Burciaga Jr. - CO Chris Klein - LA Dave van den Bergh - NY Carey Talley - RSL Diego Gutierrez - Chicago Shavar Thomas - Chivas USA Alex Zotinca - Chivas USA Brandon Prideaux - Chicago Will Hesmer - Columbus USL/indoor Stephen Armstrong - Charleston/Chicago Storm(indoor) John Wilson - Charleston Chris Brown - Portland Andrew Gregor - Portland Taylor Graham - Seattle Sounders Vincente Figueroa - California Cougars (indoor) Pat Healey - Crystal Palace Baltimore Tony Meola - New Jersey (indoor) International Antti Sumiala - Porin Palloilijat (Finland) Khari Stephenson - AIK (Sweden) Josh Wolff - 1860 Munich (Germany) Diego Walsh - Adelaide United FC (Australia) Jermaine Hue - Harbour View FC (Jamaica) Onandi Lowe - Arnett Gardens (Jamaica) Gary Glasgow - Joe Public FC (Trinidad) Chris Konopka - Bohemian FC (Ireland) Eddie Johnson - Fulham FC (England) Will John - Randers FC (Denmark) Others that were playing somewhere last season that I haven't found this year yet. Ihor Dotsenko - Richmond Kickers(07) Matt Taylor - Chivas USA/Portland(07) Jay Alberts - Vancouver(07) Stephen Shirley - Rochester(07)
i hear that raybould may have signed with a team in Sweden, i don't know if thats true but my dad said that that is what Sam said
Interesting, according to the wiki page on Raybould, he signed with Sandvikens IF today actually. Sandvikens IF is in the 4th division of Sweden. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryan_Raybould His name's listed on their site: http://www.svenskidrott.se/Organisation.asp?WCI=wiKlubbKassaNews&WCU=1118865&CatId=315868 He'll wear number 8. http://www.svenskidrott.se/Organisation.asp?WCI=wiKlubbKassaNews&WCU=1026411&CatId=315868. So get your order in for a Sandvikens #8 jersey Gordo. Can't read Swedish though.
I started a thread in Yanks Abroad about Raybould, and someone's posted some more media stuff, of course all in Swedish. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=671324 But it does have 1 picture.
This is a great thread. It's always fun to follow ex-Wizards. In particular, there have been several LA Galaxy articles recently saying that the LA Galaxy are "Becks, Donovan, and Ruiz, a few decent MLS players like Vanney, and then a bunch of no names," with no mention whatsoever of Chris Klein. GIVE THAT MAN HIS DUE CREDIT DAMN YOU.
Oz City's gotten a translation of one of the articles listed on the yanks abroad forum http://ozcitysoccer.com/2008/03/19/two-07-wizards-find-new-teams/ Some highlights, No offense to Ryan, but wow. Biggest signing is interesting. But it's cool to see how he got there. He also posts a link to this article, where Edson Elcock has been invited to camp with the PR Islanders of USL-1 http://www.puertoricoislandersfc.com/news_full.php?id=168
Wow. Okay, I never had any problems with Ryan Raybould, I thought he was pretty solid in the back when he had to be, and Gansler seemed to think he had a lot of potential too. In fact I have to say that with our current defensive situation I was surprised we let him go this off season. But best signing in over 30 years? That just seems pathetic for their league. I wish him well there, hopefully he can make an impact and have some fun doing it. I don't know how much he could grow as a player in that setting though. I'd be really interested to see his stats after a season of play there.
Well it also says that he has an agreement with the club that he can leave in July. So theoritically, if he plays well, he could be in a higher division by July.
You think that's bad, check out Porin Palloilijat, the team Antti Sumiala is playing for now. http://www.fcpopa.fi/
speaking of former Wizards, one had a game today. Diego Walsh and Adelaide United played Changchun Yatai in the AFC Champions League. 0-0 draw.
Actually even the Allsvenskan is little more than amateur soccer, and that's almost literally true, although truth be known the typical Allsvenskan player may actually be better on the whole than your typical MLS player. Even so, many of their players have to take second jobs to make ends meet. Allsvenskan is full of players who might be able to upgrade but just prefer to stay in Sweden for whatever reason-in fact that's why Henke Larsson is playing there now, but he would be the extreme example obviously. Also there are some guys who were under contract with bigger clubs but got tired of sitting. It's quite a sore point with Swedes how much their league has deteriorated in the last 20 years. Yeah he could, but I will never show this to my Swedish friend because I would never hear the end of how "horrible MLS is" if he knew about this. I think the traffic generated by your post may have crashed their server because their home page took like 5 minutes to come up.
speaking of former players, I had this link emailed to me by someone reading my blog. http://www.gousfbulls.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=36619&SPID=2914&DB_OEM_ID=7700&ATCLID=1380358
Wolff and Johnson were called up for the US team in the game against Poland. http://ussoccer.com/articles/viewArticle.jsp_5799937.html
Didn't realize this, but Taylor Graham is playing for the Puerto Rico National Team, he has 3 caps and a goal for them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taylor_Graham
