Re: VfB Stuttgart-Deutscher Meister 07 Thread 07/08 part 2 [R]
According to newspaper reports, Stuttgart will finally get a real football stadium. The VfB as well as the city of Stuttgart seem to have reached an agreement on how to finance the reconstruction.
That's Great news
The reconstruction efforts will start in April 2009 and will last until the end of 2011. The deal is pretty complicated. The VfB won't buy the stadium as of now, but will pay 27 Million € which is more than a third of the total reconstruction costs.
Here's a rendering of how things are supposed to look like when it's finished:
Opposed to earlier reports, the capacity won't decrease but the stadium will even gain another 500 seats.

What will happen to Stuttgart's track and field events? Will a new stadium be built for those?

Don´t know, but i read an indoot complex will be included,
that can be used for volleyball, handball, fencing, table-tennis
and gymnastics.

Whole thing looks great. It will surely improve the atmosphere in Stuttgart
as you could have seen at other clubs in the past. I also like, that the stadium roof
will be part of the new stadium, because this way the stadium remains unique.

Meanwhile, player ratings for the Cottbus match:
Sven Ulreich: KR: 3
MR: 2.5
Ricardo Osorio: KR: 3.5
MR: 3.5
Fernando Meira: KR: 2(MoM)
MR: 2(MoM)
Matthieu Delpierre: KR: 3
MR: 3
Ludovic Magnin: KR: 3.5
MR: 3
Pavel Pardo: KR: 3
MR: 3.5
Thomas Hitzlsperger: KR: 4
MR: 4.5
Roberto Hilbert: KR: 4
MR: 4
Yildiray Basturk: KR: 4
MR: 4
Sergiu Radu: KR: 5
MR: 5
Ciprian Marica: KR: 5
MR: 4.5
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Basically, the most encouraging part of the Cottbus game, besides the 3 points, was our defense. Ulreich had his first ever clean sheet, Also, Meira, who has been off his best this season played a very good game and scored the winning goal to top it off. Deservedly man of the match, and Delpierre played good too. Magnin I think should be the starter over Boka as he's simply more reliable, and Osorio improved on the Bremen game, hopefully he just needs to get his fitnesss back. This is all promising, but we mustn't forget that it's not hard for a defense to look good against COttbus. We'll see on Saturday if this is an improvement or just a one-off, but for now it's encouraging.
The midfield did badly, but that's mostly because of Cottbus's rough style. The strikers were the worst though. Marica didn't play well, and still can't score. I'd say if Gomez is fit we should definitely play Gomez-Cacau in attack against Bochum. As for Radu, well it was his first match starting and he was absolutely terrible, just like in the winter friendlies. I really wonder why we loaned him out, and it's hard for me to see him having any impact on the club's fortunes in the remainder of the season. We'll see.

OK. I think I know that one. That's where the American Football team plays, isn't it??
Wasted money? I guess the track and field events don't do well in Stuttgart anymore??

No one cares about them except the mayor.
