    Kick this baby off...

I find the final roster a bit shocking but nevertheless, I expect the boys to light them up.

One of the biggest benchmarks for the Bradley/Nowak era is prepping our players for tournaments. Bradley did well for the Gold Cup, handcuffed for the Copa.

For Nowak to jettison our left flank, I expect to see solid defense knowing his preference.

    3-1 or 2-0 U23 MNT

Please Sopcast, pleeeaaaassssseeee! I don't want to go to the loud pizza place and watch (but will if I need to).

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the Adu, Altidore, and Zizzo I saw against Poland in the U-20's.

My guess for the Cuba game:

    ----------------Seitz--------------
    Wynne----Orozco---Edu----Freeman
    Holden----Mccarty--Kljestan----Adu
    ----------Davies---Altidore---------

And for the vital Semifinal match:

    -----------------Seitz------------------
    Wynne----Orozco---Spector----Freeman
    Holden-------Edu-----Kljestan-------Adu
    ------------Davies---Altidore------------

Nowak starts ADU as a LM then he should be fired, pronto.

    Seitz
    Hill-Orozco-Sturgis-Freeman
    Kljestan-Edu
    Zizzo-Adu-Gaven
    Altidore

    Subs:
    Holden--either side as a winger
    Davies-- Adu, switch 4-4-2
McCarty-- Kljestan, add possession at the end

I'm guessing you don't have FSC? Just in case you didn't know all the matches are shown on that channel.

    Report from Cuban newspaper.

Cuban newspaper Juventude Rebelde calls Freddy Adu "a lethal forward."

The Cubans obviously did not see any of his games for RSL.

Their German coach says they have to be aggressive.

They are looking to win all their games.

There's more material about their proposed tours of Europe.

They're showing all the games for free on ESPN360.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/broadband/espn360/index

I've never used it before, but I'm assuming it's better than Sopcast or any other p2p service. We shall see...

In order to use 360, your cable/isp provider has to pay a fee for you to see ESPN 360 - if they haven't given in to ESPN's strong arm tactics like they use to get ISP's to take classic or ESPNU, then it won't work for you

    Davies?

Who, IIRC, has yet to score in any of the warm up and has something like 2-3 professional goals, possibly all in one game.

Well, MLS is not an under-23 tournament. He was pretty lethal in the under-20s. Hell, in any competition where he's grouped with people his own age. Heck, just read this, it's from wiki, but they are all verifiable facts:

"In January 2007, Adu captained the United States U-20 national team as it qualified for the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada. He finished the qualifying tournament with 2 goals and an assist, all of which he scored against Panama. By then playing in the 2007 tournament finals, held from June to July, Adu became only the second player in the world to play in three FIFA U-20 World Cups.
On 3 July 2007 Adu scored a hat trick in USA's 6-1 victory over Poland in the group stage of the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup. This accomplishment made him the first player to ever score a hat trick in both the U-17 and U-20 World Cups. In the following 2-1 victory over Brazil, Adu assisted on both USA goals by Jozy Altidore."

Heh, and I just remembered he's still not 19 yet.

He will probably start Gaven on the left and use Freddy as an A mid.

He did score a pretty solid goal against China in the 2nd game. The guy is fast and is probably very confident at the U23 level.

OK, one friendly goal and 3 pro goals IIRC - all in one game. Not exactly who I'd prefer to start

That makes him sound like a better sub, to me

Not unreasonable, especially the idea that Spector won't start until later. But I think Barrett has a stronger chance to start up top with Altidore than does Davies. Putting the ball in the net counts for something, and Barrett has been doing that.

My guess for the Cuba match:

    ----------------Seitz--------------
    Wynne----Orozco---Edu----Freeman
    Gavin----Mccarty--Kljestan----Holden
    --------Altidore----Adu----------

Davies looked very good in China second game.

Please, for the love of god, don't tell me you've gone all twellmanfan with Barrett. I can take a lot of shit on BS, but that would pretty much turn the world upside down.

    Nutmeeeeeeeg, buddy. Nutter. Nutty Buddy.

Personally, I trust Nowak at this point to not be a "system" coach and try and plug in the same forwards for every situation. I expect we'll see Adu & Altidore to start, and if ineffective, either Barrett or Findley coming in and moving Adu withdrawn, depending on how Cuba defends against him.

I don't know much about Cuba's defenders, but there are some situation where you can play a couple of bulls up front and not have to slave down to the big forward/small forward concept that the US has been tied to since forever.

That being said, my admiration for Barrett as a player makes the average Twellmanfan's mancrush look positively ambivalent by comparison. :D
