Looks like Bosnich might be on his way
Venables has money to spend following the sale of Rio Ferdinand, but the capture of Okon will be a free transfer, meaning there will still be funds in the kitty to further strengthen the squad.
Okon should be joined in West Yorkshire by Nicky Barmby, who is expected to be unveiled at a press conference on Thursday.
Meanwhile Socceroo goalkeeper Mark Bosnich may be joining former Manchester United team mates Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole at Blackburn Rovers.
Bosnich continues to be out of favour with Chelsea coach Claudio Ranieri despite his good form. He has featured only once in pre-season trial matches and has not been in the either the first team or reserve team squad in recent weeks.
Chelsea are in tight financial circumstances after several big spending seasons with minimal on field success. They are keen to cut their massive wages bill and the idle Mark Bosnich is an obvious target.
However Bosnich will only leave Chelsea on his terms. He has been toughened by the harsh treament he has received in recent years firstly from Alex Ferguson at Manchester United and then by Claudio Ranieri at Chelsea.
Bosnich had been linked to a move with Celtic but was unable to agree terms
