How come this guys are not sponcers yet?
GolTV
Verizon
ATT
Big Soccer
Pepsi
Coca Cola
Budweiser
Ford
AOL
Microsoft
Target
Wal-mart
Bank of America
these are big American coprs and how come we don't see them as sponcers of our MLS teams?
I seen AOL Stadium in England, Citigroup kit sponcer for a team in UK.
Pepsi in Argentina, Coca Cola in Argentina, Bud in Argentina, Toyota in Mexico, even Wal-Mart is in Argentina.
Do you guys think they are afraid to invest in this league?

Re: How come this guys are not sponcers yet?
Do you mean shirt sponsors because some of the companies on that list are MLS sponsors or blocked out by other MLS sponsors.
Pepsi is a league sponsor through their brand Sierra Mist which means Coke cannot be. Budweiser is a league sponsor. Ford is blocked out by Honda which is a league sponsor. Bank of America is blocked by Chase.
It is one of the difficulties of having league sponsors that put in more money than any particular team sponsor. Right now the big sponsors would rather put money into the entire league rather than individual teams.
I think sponsorships typical of soccer around the world are seen as a new thing in American sports and so local marketing people are unsure of the value. Sponsorships are definitely increasing and as the value is recognized then bigger companies will probably come in.

Sam Adams seems like a very fitting sponsor for the Revs, but I don't know if that can happen because Budweiser is a league sponsor.

There was some talk that Citi could have become the shirt sponsor of the Galaxy last year even though Chase is a league sponsor. However, Citi would have been very limited in the types of promotions that they could have done. Basically, it seemed like they could be on the shirt and done some local things but they could not have extended that branding into any area that might have conflicted with Chase.
I don't know the details or even if that is completely accurate but it sounded reasonable at the time. That might mean that Sam Adams could be a shirt sponsor for the Revs but only that. For example, McDonald's is a Dynamo team sponsor which is OK as long as they don't push their advertising into areas that would conflict with Burger King, a league sponsor.
