Getting to the game on game day
After hearing that there is likely going to be parking issues while the Quakes are playing at SCU, I started my investigation of what public transportation options are available to me. The website 511.org was very helpful in mapping a game day route. You can see the VTA bus and rail map below. Buck Shaw stadium should be directly across from the Santa Clara Transit Center in the bottom right hand corner.
Designated drivers, check.

Re: Getting to the game on game day
I'm down with showing up 4 hours before the game and hanging out with friends
Not going to be a problem for me. Worst case scenario I have to park a couple blocks away (most likely where Im not supposed to)

My plan is to have a hotel room nearby (I live 150 miles away) and walk to the game.

Re: Getting to the game on game day
Dang, and I thought those of us season ticket holders up here 100 miles away were dedicated...
This is actually a good thread. There's a group of five of us that come down from Santa Rosa. Historically we've made a day of it; show up right when the gates open, drive into the parking lot and tailgate until game time. We figure that we'll have to change our habits, but we're not sure how. This is a good start, checking out public transit options. Now, about tailgating... once we figure out how to get there, where do we hang out to eat/drink/make merry?

Re: Getting to the game on game day
I recall hearing that we are not going to be able to tailgate on the SCU campus somewhere here on BS. I think that we will likely endup doing pub crawls before and after the game unless something better comes up. I am not all that familiar with the area however there is an old English chap who owns the 'Ye Olde Royal Oak Pub' very close to the site off of Coleman. This will is right across the street from the FMC site where they plan to build the new stadium (fingers crossed).

Re: Getting to the game on game day
We need that pedestrian walkway from the CalTrain Station to the Airport West (FMC) site! Otherwise it will be tough to get back and forth between this Old Oak Pub and TheShaw(tm).
Another option is to party on CalTrain on the way to the games, then go to the VIP party location next to the stadium.
Coordination will be important!

Or take the Coast Starlight from your 'hood to games here or in L.A. for some serious, long-distance partying.

I love how this thread is turning from "how do we get to the game?" into "where do we drink before the game?" Coordinating the party car on Caltrain is key for those of us coming from Oakland/SF.
