Re: 2008 AFC Champions League AD-Hoc committee findings - www.the-afc.com KUALA LUMPUR – Under the chairmanship of Captain Saburo Kawabuchi, the AFC Professional League Ad-Hoc Committee narrowed the list of potential Member Associations to the new AFC Champions League and insisted that the criteria for entry will not be lowered. Since April 2007, the Committee had inspected a total of twenty-one (21) countries in which all were assessed in ten areas, (1) Organisation, (2) Technical Standard, (3) Attendance, (4) Governance/Soundness, (5) Marketing & Promotion, (6) Business Scale, (7) Match Operations, (8) Media, (9) Stadia & Facilities and (10) Clubs. Based on the overall assessment, between fourteen (14) to sixteen (16) member associations have been short-listed for a second inspection visit whereby they will be subjected to further scrutiny from the Committee to see if the entry criteria to the AFC Champions League are met. The second inspection visit will take place from March 2008 with the final assessment due to the presented to the Committee in May 2008. In his closing remarks, Captain Kawabuchi urged Member Associations to share the Confederation’s vision and determination for change, “Reforms and renewal comes with many difficulties and pain. However, unless Member Associations overcome these difficulties, football in Asia will not progress. To reform, drastic actions are required and gradual changes will not help.” The Chairman also insisted that entry to the new AFC Champions League will only be granted to those Member Associations who strictly meet the criteria set by the Committee. “It is a difficult decision but it is a decision that must be taken professionally,” said the Chairman. Captain Kawabuchi further referred to an earlier decision by the Committee in which the Committee would review the list of participating Member Associations again in 2010. “Countries who failed to meet the criteria for the 2009 edition will have another opportunity for the 2011 edition. If they meet the criteria in 2010, they will be invited to join,” the Chairman continued. Further, clubs participating in the new AFC Champions League must employ a full time General Manager or CEO as well as other professional and competent staff to overlook matters related to (1) competition, (2) technical, (3) youth development, (4) media, (5) marketing, (6) finance and (7) administration.
Re: 2008 AFC Champions League I think group G is sort of the death group. But I reckon that Gamba will prevail in that group.
