Well, there are impressive ways to start the season and impressive ways to start to the season, and notwithstanding Rotherham's ridiculous result at Millwall (ha ha ha), there surely wasn't a more impressive scoreline in the First Division today than ours? I can't say it was easy or that we were clearly the better side, but three points at Deepdale is a fine return at a ground where you'd probably settle for a draw. Furthermore, good to see our fourth/fifth striker score the winning goal.
There's just a chance that Trevor is putting together a decent side here, and though it may be in his own image (in other words, possibly not the most attractive image the game has ever seen, though for now let's reserve judgement on that), it might be a good enough one to do something at this level. His purchases in the summer have actually been extremely astute on the evidence so far, as has his stewardship of the bank balance. I'm quite happy with the Morrison money clawing back the ITV Sport losses and more, and funding Derry, Johnson, Powell, and Butterfield coming in. All four of them look good players at this level, and better than we had before.
No point getting carried away with one win on opening day, but the M6 southbound was a sweet place to be this evening. Palace will be thereabouts.
