I think Ronnie can bring a lot as a coach with experience. Glad to see him or his twin involved...

Question is can he help Grabavoy get just that little bit better so we can use all the speed up front and on the wing to get behind defenses?

Yeah, from a handful of seconds. Did you actually go to the practice? For that matter did anyone attend the practice?
I also noticed that JD, Frankie, and TheJoe all said that Kei Kamara is a guy they expect big things from. Now that doesn't guarantee that he'll deliver, but I think it's a hopeful sign.

Re: Semi-official 2008 San Jose Earthquakes roster thread
No, I didn't go to practice. Yeah, you have to be real careful making assumptions based upon a few clips of video which is why I didn't come right out and say they are crap. Assuming we get first string starters up front, I'm fairly please at our backups. They could have a lot of potential which is what you look at for a new team...

Soccer America quotes Yallop:
Yallop is eagerly awaiting the March 1 roster/salary cap compliance date to scoop up players other teams discard.
"You want to try and get guys from MLS if you can," says Yallop. "That's the best way. I hope we get through a lot of players. We'll move a few on, maybe keep them in our books and tell them we might invite them back.
"We know teams are going to waive some players. That's an important time for us, probably. We'll see what's out there."
I think Yallop has a lot of faith in his own abilities. I have a good deal of faith in him too. And the coaches I rate most highly are the ones who consistently get players to play over their heads. I hope Yallop can still do that, and I have to assume he knows the league is better than back in '01 when he got his team winning. I like his calm and understated approach. He also doesn't like to give away much. But it sounds like we keep assuming we're going to make a good team out of what rejects fall in our lap, and that there isn't a very defined picture of the squad in mind yet. That worries me, I have to say.

Re: Semi-official 2008 San Jose Earthquakes roster thread
Some of those players can be very good. They're just too expensive for those teams. But if we have money they won't be too expensive for us. And some of it will be gambling on players that might still come good, ie be solid starters and not squad depth. American players can be really late developing and if teams are discarding them as didn't develop and you can still see a chance (provided they're not head cases) that can be worth the risk. We're counting on Cochrane, Grabavoy and Riley all to fit that description and take the leap from potential to good. But I do think they needed to get more international players than just one Arg forward.

ooooh, zing! i agree, Barret returned from Europe unimpressive...for the first half of the season. I hate Corrales too much to give him any credit for anything.
