according to Goff:

Breaking News: Arena Fired
Four sources tell me this morning that the Red Bulls have decided to make a coaching change and have dismissed Bruce Arena after one and a half seasons. New York started well this season, but faded late in the year and was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by New England on Saturday night.

Arena accepted the New York job last summer after nearly eight years in charge of the U.S. national team.

Arena told me he had no comment. Calls to Red Bulls GM Jeff Agoos as well as Arena's agent, Richard Motzkin, were not immediately returned.

Arena's contract was guaranteed for, I believe, the next two years at a base salary of $600,000.

Oh jesus, please tell me this isn't true.

If it is, let's prepare for the inevitable rebuilding of this team again. I am sure that will be alot of fun.

wow. speechless if true.

1.5 years is hardly enough to evaluate arena...

on the other hand, i don't think he exceeded anyone's expectations with the team he fielded. the only one who did was JPA...and he did that all by himself.

i expected much more as far as the way the team played.

red bull must have someone else lined up.

So much for continuity. I wish for Reyna and every SI?DP except Angel to go but not Bruce right now. Not crazy about this move as thought we could build with what we have rather than starting all over again.

This sucks, I would have given Arena another year.

 

Well blow me down. Blimey. I am really surprised. This year did represent an improvement.

I'm not sure why a big name euro coach would come here, but I think this league needs them.

 

Hopefully the new coach won't get rid of fan favorites..man i just cant wait to see what happens next. Instead of that freeze-frame webcam they should set up Reality TV.."In the Life of a Red Bull", i would definately be watching that.

 

Frank Yallop to TFC and Mo Johnston back to NYRB...LOL

 

What happens now to Williams, Harkes and Agoos?

Bob Bradley and Arena both know exactly how MLS works and they couldn't do it. Whats wrong with getting a Euro coach?
