I'll admit that I would prefer to be playing in an SSS as opposed to Qwest (even though I've been there many times and it's a beautiful facility). BUT, if we can have owners that are willing to splash the cash and get some DPs, we'll have a very successful big-market team. I think our market is one of those that needs a DP to really be successful and create buzz...much like Los Angeles and New York.
I don't know the specs of his contract, but I'm sure he can afford it with that Price Is Right money.
Will never happen because he's an established Galaxy fan and we all know you can never change allegiance.
MLS should have known something like this would eventually happen and added a cap on high-profile investors per team to their rulebook along with the SSS rule. - Paul
He has been trying to bring a team to cleveland for awhile now so this is not suprising cause it seems like he wants to be an investor in the league some where
There is indeed a rumored 4th 'high profile' Seattle MLS investor. Is it Carey? I have heard rumors that it is. Who knows? The pile of paperwork surrounding getting the Seattle deal done is gigantic and beyond what any of the investors ever expected. This is the reason for the delay from the original Oct. 11 planned announcement. We've heard that it has been frustrating for all involved, but you just can't cut corners when establishing legal documents during the birth of a franchise. Carey's involvement, if true, is likely just another pile of papers on those from the Roth, Hanauer and Allen camps. Drew would help Seattle MLS get some attention with the general sporting public here, though, that's for sure. MLS still hopes to announce Seattle at MLS Cup, but that would still be 5 weeks later than the plan. That recent press release suggests not getting your hopes up for it to be done even by then, Seattle fans.
Wrong. That 'story' came out before I posted. Hadn't even thought of it until then. Now we have an insider source who asked a known Seattle ownership group member about Carey being involved. He said "I can't comment on that." In other words, we still don't know. But we do know that Carey is now west-coast bound (Price is Right) and loves soccer.
I know Ryan Stiles has a house just south of Bellingham, maybe he's really the investor not Drew Carey.
(sung to "Hoedown") Investors in Seattle, they really want a team, The fans are so excited they all stand up and scream; Is one of them Drew Carey, we may not ever know, All Big Soccer says now is that Qwest Field must go... Qwest Field must goooooooooooo!!!
"When I was a kid I remember listening to all those great soccer songs. That's why we're here to bring you this great CD offer, "Songs of the Sounders Fans"! Who can forget that great Beach Boys hit "Fun, Fun, Fun Until Garber Takes The Qwest Field Away"? (cue Wayne Brady)
I can't wait until Ryan Stiles gets called for a handball, only to find they're actually Colin Mochrie's hands...
Sure. and fyi, Drew Carey has lived in LA ever since his original show was on. So he isn't "west coast bound". Drew does love soccer. In fact, he's a huge LAG fan.
If you've ever seen Carey talk about MLS, he always says he roots for the Gals because he lives in LA and there's no Cleveland team. Actually, he made a ton of money as a part owner of The Drew Carey Show. When shows go into syndication, that's where the big money is.
Whereas a so-called "small market" team doesn't need "buzz" to be successful? Or is the point that "small market" teams can't be successful? And you're hoping your owners go out and get "some" Dp's? Like how many do you think? Five? Six? And yes indeed, everyone agrees that your "market" is "much like" Los Angeles and New York. Bartender, send that guy a clue on me, willya?
ESPN showed Drew Carey raising the #12 flag at the Seahawks game tonight. This is a pre-game tradition saluting the Seahawk fans and its considered an honor to be asked. Ichiro, retiring FB Mack Strong, and Paul Allen himself have done it in the past.
