150 years of football (soccer)
Inter Milan is going to play against Sheffield F.C.next month with Pele as a guest of honour. Why? Because it is the 150th anniversary of the founding of Sheffield F.C. which is the oldest football club in the world. The first handwritten rules were written as part of the minutes of the founding meeting. Printed rules came two years later. The oldest soccer ground in the world is still in existence from 1857 in Sheffield. The Club now plays in a minor league and has no connection with the two professional teams in Sheffield, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday. Wednesday got it's name because in it's earliest days the team played on that day as shops closed at noon. No night games in those days.
Ernie E Sheffield United and TFC fan.

Re: 150 years of football (soccer)
Original Sheffield F.C. used to play in Bramall Lane but as it was too big for them and they refused to go professional they left and Sheffield United was formed.
After a century of wandering they bought their own ground which is across the county line in Dronfield, Derbyshire, which may be a little bit of a problem if they're trying to go up. I pick them to go alongside AFC Wimbledon, FC United of Manchester, and Truro City as future Football League mainstays, since Sheffield can only get a lot of attention if Inter Milan plays them (They wanted to get Real Madrid as they also won the FIFA Order of Merit, but Real Mandril refused), and people could say to Sheffield F.C. "What are you doing lately?"

They could reach the conference, but there are too many established sides there. As the likes of Farsley are finding out, they aren't able to compete with the professionalism.
