What is needed in the last bunch of games to break the '96 average? I know its unrealistic, but stranger things have happened. With Becks returning, its too bad the last two Galaxy games are not in NFL stadia.

Can someone explain to me whether the mean or the median is a better indicator of attendance improvement?

    ;)

    Please. Don't take this seriously.

Great numbers (sounding like a broken record). I think the mean is more significant to those of us who pay attention than to others because we are familiar with the outliers and know that the outliers this year are MLS related where past outliers had a greater influence by non-mls factors.

There, does that head off a five page discussion?

To break the 96 Average we only need 35516 per game this weekend. We can do this:)

I am pretty sure I got all my math right on that but I could be wrong.

The last seven games would have to average 35,488 fans a game. Since only one of them takes place in a non-SSS, RFK Stadium, I'd say it's impossible, since RFK doesn't hold THAT many people.

Thank ya, well barring catastrophe, we got the median...lets hope that is highlighted as much in the press as it should be. Great year for MLS.

The press will not mention the median for two reasons

    1) MLS does not publish it (MLS has a hard enough time getting the friggan average correct)

    2) Many of the writers/readers won't understand what the median represents.

Could you go back and give us the kurtosis for each year?

    :D

Seriously, this is what we are arguing about.

not that it matters, but would it be safe to say the mode of MLS attendance is 27,000?

Yes, but they always report a slightly different attendance (usually 20,1xx), where LA rounds everything nicely to 27,000.

Andy B and Violet Crown, we are going to crush the median. I think six out of the final seven games are going to beat the number. Just remember I called this 4-5 weeks ago. Here are my predictions for the final numbers....

    Average - 16,701
    Median - 15,353
    Over 20k - 29.23%
    Under 10k - 8.21%

Will this series of threads continue on into the playoffs? What's everyone's prediction for level of interest? Can we expect to see a continued high standard?

    If these are the matchups.....

    DC vs Chi
    NY vs NE
    Chivas vs LA
    Houston vs Dallas

....then yes. The attendances will be great.

It's not really silly, with the change in currency values, Americans attending TFC matches only count as .96 Canadians, so the final attendance depends on how many Americans are attending.
