Default The away day at Liverpool....

Hey guys,

I'm going to be at Anfield for our away game, but I'm really unsure about my travel arrangements. Looking at TrainLine, I have basically one option:

Leave London-Euston on the 9:35, arriving into Liverpool Lime at 14:31.

Leave Liverpool-Lime at 19:13, arriving into Euston at 23:47.

[By the way, I am in Winchester and will be leaving at 7ish to not get back here until 3 AM]

Is this reasonable? Am I possibly getting in too late? Will I not be able to make the train out of Liverpool?

Is the away coach a significantly better idea?

The issue, by the way, is that the Sunday is the last day of my 10 day vacation from teaching, and I have class at 9 AM the next morning.

Trains on Sundays are notoriously unreliable - they do a lot of work on the tracks on Sundays so delays are frequent.

I got the train down from Manchester for the Pompey game - got 0905 train, due to arrive at 12.00 (already 30 mins slower than weekday time). Spent 2.5 hours stuck outside Rugby and saw 23 minutes of the game.

The away coaches may be slower than the train but are more likely to guarantee to get you there on time.

If you do get the train and arrive at Lime Street on time, you will be ok to get to the ground on time - Anfield's not that far from the centre.

Good luck.

Thanks, Red. I'm taking your comments into account when planning....

does anyone know if I can take the Arsenal coach ONLY for the return trip? I'm planning now to be in Birmingham the day and night before to match to make Sunday itself less hectic/insane. Taking the coach back to London may be, however, the best idea for the return journey. Train back to London Euston from Liverpool may take as long if not longer (plus I need to be conservative in my train booking, allowing for perhaps too much time after the game)...and MAYBE I can even make last Tube on Sunday night, which would make my life much easier.

So, Away coach just for the return? I'll be calling the club tomorrow about this most likely and asking in any case, but thought I'd ask for more feedback...

I don't think so, tickets are inclusive of out and return trip.

What you could do is get an "open ticket". Whereas to get a cheaper fare you need to book a specific train, for a little extra you can just jump on any train from Liverpool to London. Plus if needs be it is inclusive of changes onto other trains. On top of that, if you do decide to get a particular train, you can reserve a seat, free of charge, up to two hours before its departure time from the origin (since the trains all start at Lime Street, this basically means you can reserve a seat two hours in advance).

Hmmm....

Ill have to see what the Club says. I would, in fact, be willing to pay full fare for just return, considering it will not be much more than my single from Liverpool (even with Young Persons Railcard)....

Oh, and looks like Ill be attending B'ham City vs. Wigan at St. Mary's that Saturday. Strangely excited for that. 15 quid per ticket; feels like I must do it
