Are you okay with Qwest Field as home of the Seattle MLS team?
Advantages:
-No need to spend $100 mil on a stadium 30 minutes from Seattle
-Qwest Field is located in downtown Seattle
-More transportation options
-More entertainment/dining/drinking options before and after matches
-Visibility
Disadvantages:
-Big stadium (69k)
-field turf
--------------------------------------------------------------
If you closed up the upper deck, the stadium has about 25,000 seats. Imagine the stadium without the upper deck.

For soccer, the field logo/football lines will be gone. It will look like the picture above.

Thanks for putting another target on Seattle MLS and it's fans. This has been discussed to the point that it's become ludicrous. The bottom line is it's going to happen. We'll review in a few years and see who will have to say..... "I was wrong about Qwest."

Sounderman.... I agree with you.. Qwest Field will work for the sounders.....
I saw the DC UNITED v REAL MADRID game last year... and it was great... I know you won't get that crowd, but I enjoyed watching a game in that stadium..

If they can cap the attendance for just the lower bowl and actually enforce it I think it'll be ok. The only reason I am against Qwest is because I think part of the success of HDC, Toronto, Chicago and even Colorado now is that they have smaller stadiums and people buy in advance in fear of sellouts. If people are buying tickets ahead of time that'll make them attend the game instead of waiting til game day and deciding they don't really want to go which hurts attendance. Ticket scarcity is an important thing and that is the advantage of an SSS. I hope I'm making sense...

I am assuming that with the year and a half they have to build excitement there will be an opportunity for substantial savings for those that sign on early. An intense season ticket drive needs to be part of the plan.

I'm no marketing or economics genius, but I believe you're referring to supply and demand.

Hehe, that's the term I was looking for . I just wish they enforce it even during the Beckham games and other games that might draw big crowds.

Re: Are you okay with Qwest Field as home of the Seattle MLS team?
I'll just ask this where are the three worst MLS venues to see a match played at?
KC, NY, RSL
All football stadiums. Football stadiums with only 10,000 fans just look bad. It will be better financially for the team to build a soccer specific stadium. If that can't happen than the MLS should give the franchise to Vancouver.

Re: Are you okay with Qwest Field as home of the Seattle MLS team?
I like Memorial Stadium. Seems the perfect size for an expansion team. Thought I read somewhere that it holds about 17,000 (though I could be mistaken) Personally I'd rather be at a sellout in a smaller stadium than be in a group of 10,000 in a place built for 70,000. However I've never been to Seattle before and I hear there are problems with it, such as no parking and no beer sold. No parking fine... but no beer!
