First of all, it's MLS.
Average crowds are in the 15,000 range; the final usually gets a crowd of between 40,000 and 50,000.

From what I hear, I'm thinking we're much better off than the Aussies as far as professional leagues go.

I've never met someone who is the embodiment of soccer!
I've always wanted to be able to say
"I am soccer in America, and I order you to..."

Relegation
As far as the poll goes, which doesn't seem to have anything to do with the thread, I don't think the league is strong enough to support relegation just yet. If LA were to be relegated, the team would fold. Historically, attendance in LA has a tendancy to drop dramatically if they just lose a few in a row. I'd love to see teams get relegated and get promoted, but I figure it won't happen for a while, if at all.

That's quite good, considering it hasn't even been going 10 years.

Re: Soccer crowds
During thier championship hears, the DC UNITED I belive were averaging around 17-22,000 per home game. I know they had 57,000 for at least one of the championship games. So far THIS season, they are averageing OVER 20,000 for the first 2 home games. THe first game was a sellout, at 24,400 something... and the second game there were 21,000 in attendance.
Im sure a big portion of that is due to the hype of Freddy Adu, but I would expect this to continue as Freedy ages, and only gets better, as will the UNITED.

Re: Soccer crowds
my team what? was relegated? that is what you would hear from alot of american fans that dont know much about soccer. its a hard sell in the u.s. and to owners in the u.s. who are used to making money even when theyre losing like crazy.

The league in Australia is being entirely restructured, and has been suspended until the middle of 2005.
Adelaide United and Perth Glory both attract 15-16,000 to their matches, all the other teams (ethnic based clubs - e.g. Sydney United are Croatian etc.) had crap crowds.

Re: Soccer crowds
I spose one of the heardest things in MLS also is the distances involved - Many european fans who post in these forusm think a 300 mile trek is bad for an away match but in the states is so much further hence why is regionalised
