We've been doing a bunch of planning for next year and before we pull the trigger, I thought I'd ask the experts....

    1. where would you like to play in '08? (to clarify a. high school stadium, b. arrowhead c. other ideas you have)
    2. who would you like to play in friendly matches and where?
    3. would you rather build a stadium in kansas or missouri?
    4. if you could pick-out and sign our DP who would it be?
    5. if you could trade for anybody in the league, who would it be?
    6. preseason - argentina or spain?
    7. promote pierron or reynolds?

Wow. First of all, I would just like to say this is a whole new step I've never even heard of. Everything you and the other owners have done for us is absolutely amazing up to this point but this just brings the fans more personally into this organization than anything I've ever heard of before. Thank you so much for making Kansas City soccer fans' dreams come true. You guys are without a doubt the best owners I've ever heard of for any team ever, and I feel honored to call myself a Wizards fan under your reign.

I would have to think about some of these longer, but my immediate response is:

    1. In the nicest sss in the league. :) Really it doesn't matter to me as long as it's in KC, I'll drive there for the few games a year I can make.

    3. Either is fine but I'm from Kansas so I'll say Kansas since I have to pick one.

    6. Spain, so that Qdog can make it to a game.

    7. Both

The other questions require a little more work and thought so I'll get back to those.

No time nor energy to add my 2 cents right now, but wanted to add to the sentiment that this is phenomenal stuff from an ownership group in a major sport.

    1. Somewhere that allows tailgating outside of Arrowhead.
    2. Instead of friendlies, focus on getting USMNT matches at Arrowhead.
    3. Missouri. JoCo had an oppurtunity and turned it down. Wyndotte is a haul coming from MO. Jackson Co has long had the vision of being progressive about large pojects.
    4. Guardado (Atlas) Young, talented, mexican, sister club, obtainable.

    1. where would you like to play?
Wherever puts KC in the best position to succeed. :) Seriously, I'm sure everyone on this board would love for the Wizards to play at a location that is personally convenient to them, most of us just want a place that feels like home, if a temporary one. If you can manage that, you have improved on Arrowhead Stadium. On the other hand, Arrowhead does have it's advantages, in the event construction is delayed another year.

    2. who would you like to play in friendly matches and where?
I'm sure a big 4 club would be prohibitively expensive, but Everton, Spurs, Bolton all come to mind from the EPL. I know a guy who would be ecstatic if we played Toluca, and another who would fall over if we played Herediano of the Costa Rican League, and another who would love for us to play Djurgardens IF (but I'm not sure those would be much of a draw and in the case of Herediano, not much of a challenge). Sevilla, Espanyol, Werder Bremen, PSV, Club America, UNAM. All of those would be great friendlies, imo.

    3. would you rather build a stadium in kansas or missouri?
Don't care, although if it went in at the Great Mall site, I wouldn't complain. ;)

    4. if you could pick-out and sign our DP who would it be?
Well, there's Eddie of course. How about Juninho! Whoever it is I would like to see them fill a hole. So what do we need? A target man, a finisher, someone who takes a good corner.

    5. if you could trade for anybody in the league, who would it be?
No idea. I'm happy the coach is the one who has to make these kinds of decisions. It would take a lot of thought and research.

    6. preseason - argentina or spain?
No preference. Spain is a beautiful country, even if their music is awful and their water is bad. I'm sure the same is true of Argentina. However, there are many ways to get in trouble in Spain, they are a nocturnal culture.

    7. promote pierron or reynolds?
    Hahaha.

    1. Arrowhead... but if thats unavailable then what about the Kansas City T-Bones stadium? Theres plenty of parking out there and DC United manages to share their stadium with a baseball team so I think the Wizards could too.
    2. I'd like to see the Wizards play Ajax or PSV somewhere around KC (maybe in Lawrence at KU's football stadium if Arrowhead is unavailable). An EPL team or anyone from a big league like that would be sweet also.

    1) High school stadium (better atmosphere than Arrowhead)
    2) Sevilla, anywhere here in KC
    3) Missouri
    4) Riquelme
    5) Angel (that would be some strike force pared with EJ)
    6) Hmmm, I would say Spain because I like that area better, but if we have the possibility to find another Marinelli-type gem I would have to go with Argentina.
    7) both

    1. Anywhere but Arrowhead, the sooner we leave that place the happier I will be. I doubt any interim location will be perfect, but hopefully it will be ours. In a high school/college stadium, we will hopefully be welcomed, not just barely tolerated.
    2. Derby County, a team we can beat and we can show Eddie why he stayed here. :D Top Championship/low premiership teams. Japan league team (scout some talent form the far east).
    3. I like the Bannister mall location that has been discussed. I think it works well, close to training fields, major highway access, large parking lot for Cauldron tailgate growth. If not the Bannister location, then somewhere off of the State Line and 435 area. Build temp seating on the Sprint Campus, parking already there. Do not care which state as long as highway access is good. I have confidence that you will build a great stadium.
    4. Too many names, too little money. Lots of players I would love to see play here, but I would rather use our money to build lots of depth, multiple scoring threats, and a midfield than can own other teams. No one player is going to do that (I know the salary cap will not let us do all that either). I really do not want pay huge salary to someone looking for a last payday.
    5. Altidore impressed me in the U-20 world cup. I am sure there are some other I will think of later.
    6. Spain (there are fans there already). More exposure in Europe, more opportunity to sign players maybe. I do like our signing from Argentina, can't wait to see the next one.
    7. Unfair, but so is life. The only I know is Sam so he gets my vote.

    1. I'd like to see us play at the high school sports complex at 135th and Switzer in Overland Park. It's got decent highway access at 69 Hwy, and it doesn't seem like it would swallow all the fans that come out. To me, it would get pretty close to the initial crowd size and environment of a SSS. I'm sure there are other new high school complexes like that one that would work, also.

    2. I'd like to see friendlies against EPL teams, but other high-caliber leagues would be welcome, too.

    3. I'd build it in Kansas. Seems like there's more growth in KS, especially out near the racetrack. The highway access is already there and is large enough to accommodate a larger crowd. I know JoCo already denied it on the vote, but I think that it wasn't because of the idea, but the execution.

    4. I'm guessing we're talking about semi-realistic DPs. Ideally, it would be someone like a Marinelli that will help bring out the latino community, but also bring a high-quality level of play, and not someone to sign just to get some new butts in the seats. I'd have to think a little bit longer. I think someone like a Luciano Emilio that DC signed would be realistic and helpful.

    5. Juan Pablo Angel. I mean, if we COULD.

My knee jerk reaction is a university or HS stadium that can seat at least 10K (temp seats added if necessary). That would improve the atmosphere and would encourage fans to purchase season tickets. In an 80K stadium you can walk up on most any game day and purchase a good seat so why purchase a season ticket?

Tailgating can then be problomatic at such a facility so that's a negative.

Shoehorning a football into a baseball stadium, either Community America Ballpark or Kauffman. I imagine the Royals might nix that idea, however.

I just want to get out of Arrowhead and into a Wizards facility.

As has been mentioned, I would much rather see USMNT matches, qualifiers if possible, otherwise friendlies.

I would rather have a stadium centrally located than on the edge of town. But I'll go wherever it's built. I'd also like my company to build it. :)

    Not sure.

    Ricardo Clark?

Argentina. Continue to scout there. Unearth another Marinelli.

    I'll take the 5th.

Cant you do both. play most games at a revamped high school and play the Galaxy at arrowhead.

Hertha Berlin, Reading, Atlas, any national teams needing training matches.

Almost any team from Europe. Chelsea, Lyon, Ajax. But if that can't happen I will settle for the Fire played in Omaha @ Creighton.

I live in Ks and would like a stadium close but in the end it doesn't matter I still will be going to games. But up north of the river there is a casino that isn't around anymore that would make a great place for a stadium right along the river.

    1. Arrowhead in the interest of attracting the average fan -- high school stadium would seem unprofessional (i.e. unworthy of their time/money) and if you can avoid a temporary change of venue before the permanent change, you keep the consistency and familiarity the occasional fan has had for the last 12 years. If not Arrowhead, Rockhurst would be a great soccer-specific stadium that is centrally located.
    2. i'd love for the wizards to be part of something like the world series of soccer with top european clubs coming to play. really, anyone from epl, serie a, la liga, or the bundesliga would be very entertaining.

    1. Wherever gives the club the best chance to succeed both on and off the pitch. A smaller venue would be cool, just for intimacy's sake.
    2. Anyone really. It would be nice to see a south american or european team though. Since I live out of the market, I'd like to see a pre season friendly in OKC like the club has done in the past.
    3. I have family in the Kansas side of the city (Overland Park), so I vote for Kansas.

    1. where would you like to play in '08? (to clarify a. high school stadium, b. arrowhead c. other ideas you have) While staying at Arrowhead might make us appear more "professional", I think the smaller, more intimate setting that was originally planned for this season would make for a better game-day experience for everyone. As long as it's done right (and I have no doubt in my mind that OnGoal would do things right) I think the small High School or college stadium would work bets.
    2. who would you like to play in friendly matches and where? Would love to see us play Arsenal here at home.
    3. would you rather build a stadium in kansas or missouri? Being a long-time Kansas resident who grew up in Missouri, my preference would be someplace in Kansas. However, I do think the Bannister Mall location would be perfect for the complex. Great visibility, infrastructure already in place, and if there is not enough room to fit all of the youth fields wanted/needed, it could be expanded across I-435 to include that open area as well. Maybe build an enclosed pedestrian bridge to give easy access from that side of the highway. The pedestrian bridge could even serve as a place to hang signage about upcoming competition.
    4. if you could pick-out and sign our DP who would it be? Thierry Henry, someone with great finishing skills.
    5. if you could trade for anybody in the league, who would it be? I like the thought of Brian Ching in Wizards Blue
    6. preseason - argentina or spain? Argentina....that country has been pretty good to us so far this season.
    7. promote pierron or reynolds? I'm leaning towards relegation for both.

I think the location is less important than the timing. Get a place nailed down as early as possible - preferably before the end of this season. If you are going to a small venue, but there is some availability at Arrowhead, don't be afraid to return to Arrowhead for one-off games (doubleheader with World Cup Qualifier - or the Beckham game).

But I think that certainty would benefit everyone involved. This franchise has been up in the air - in one respect or another - for nearly three years. The new training facility is nice, but that doesn't really hit the public or press. A little outward sign of stability could really be leveraged.

I think I'd prefer to have a schedule so full of meaningful games (MLS, USOC, SuperLiga, InterLiga, Copa Libertadores, Copa Sudamericana) that there is no time for friendlies. Recognizing the limited ability of that, I'd love to see the Wizards host games featuring overseas clubs during their preseason - like LA is doing with the World Series of Football. But they need to have some cache. You can get away with an Olimpia (HON) and Ulsan (KOR) as long as the other teams are more like Valencia and Ajax than Salamanca and FC Twente.

That's more complicated. If it's on the 435/470 loop, I don't know that it matters. If you're off the loop, then it needs to be on a major feeder line.

I don't really know who is available. I would assume at this point that the expectation is that Eddie is gone next year. Either that or Lieweke is pushing an expansion of the DP program that would allow KC to have Eddie and another player. If the team is playing on a lower quality stadium with temporary lockers and not the best field, it might be difficult to bring someone in. I would also want to sit down and talk over options with Peter and Curt. They've got their plan - and I don't want to issue any "writs from above". If the choice is mine, I'd make the choice, but I don't want to ruin the team over it. Baring a transcendent player, like Robinho, who sells tickets and performs miracles, I'd probably opt - for the next two years - to find some young, relatively unknown, player that can do great on the field, then be sold for big bucks. Assuming the seating capacity the next two years is going to be reduced, there's no need to bring in a "Beckham" to sell tickets. Bring in an Andreas Guardado (make that Atlas connection work!) type for the next couple of seasons. Then when the new stadium is ready to open, then bring in a more established "anchor" star to help fill the stands. Don't bring in a "Zidane" now, by the time the stadium opens, any bump will long be gone.

I'm tempted to say Andy Williams as we might just be the only original team that he has yet to suit up for.

As long as I'm on the trip, they're both good to me. Seriously.

Chad, Sam would much rather be the man behind the curtain. (But not the Curtin).

    thanks....rh[/QUOTE]

We've been doing a bunch of planning for next year and before we pull the trigger, I thought I'd ask the experts....

    a) BVAC - except modify the track for MLS matches and insert endzone and low side line bleachers to add capacity.
    b) If its available, we know it works. Doesn't cheapen the brand like a HS stadia would.
    c) Modified Kaufman like DC does. Upgraded T-Bones facility (Legends is booming). Woodlands would already have built in facilities like parking, bathrooms, grandstands etc... the 8 dogs won't mind.

There is a very large Club America contingent here. However, any MFL team draws an extra 3-5k to the matches. The trick is including the ticket with the season ticket packages as they tend to not have been in the past and if the non-Cauldron STH's don't have it they won't go separately out to buy it. I would think any preseason traveling EPL/SPL team would draw well.

What ever works out best for the Brand and economic feasability. I would not go North of the River though.

Teddy Sherringham, Figo, Oliver Kahn. Some sort of gritty vet who's not afraid to scold and also lead by example. This team could benefit from the wisdom of some super seasoned pro's in regards to ethic, focus, and what it takes to be a true professional. Regardless of age and mileage, someone who's been at the top levels and all over the world under several situations and personnel. We already have some of that leadership on the team but it's not top to bottom through every player. Nick's lost his edge a bit. Jose has lapses. Eddie needs what Eddie needs. Davey's hustle could be more focused.

Ronnie O'Brien, Juan Toja, Dewayne DeRosario, Chris Seitz

I would do Argi again, you made some good in-roads this last preseason and a follow up could yield KC as a known MLS/Argi friendly commodity for buried talent to take a chance elsewhere and play 1st team. These players are the kind of SI's the league needs to be signing. With KC not being NY,LA,CHI we are going to have to thrive on good underground talent as no big "Name" players will have KC as a first choice. Our approach to SI's needs to be different than those markets. This is an area with which we could thrive.

    Neither, Hire Me.

Thanks again Robb for visiting us here and being so personal with the fan base.
