For those of you who care, it is time to place on ice your favorite celebratory beverage(s) with enough ice to keep that beverage cold until this Thursday, July 19. Scuttlebutt has it that the decision has been made and that it is a positive one for this city and our team. While I cannot exactly say, but it is time for us to realize that the efforts of many have come true. Dance. Laugh. Cheer. Exhale with gusto. Scream without getting the cops called on you by the neighbors. Take out your Earthquakes gear and wear it proudly this Thursday.
Putting the Diet Dr. Pepper on ice. Thanks for the heads up. I am already wearing my Earthquakes gear (from the Chelsea game). Great news.
Right at the All-Star Game. Perfect timing as well--the league will make their announcement at that event. I hope you're right. After seeing tonight's game at Stanford, that venue would make a good temporary place to play until the stadium adjacent to SJC gets built.
So perhaps there's a reason for me to show up at the Brit on Thursday after all? It sure as heck wouldn't be to watch the game itself, as a San Jose Earthquakes-less MLS, including its All-Star Game, holds absolutely zero interest for me. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
While we won't pop the champagne until the official announcement, this is great news. I look forward to seeing everyone at the games. Now we have to be sure that the stadium deal gets approved....
Thanks JMichaels. I'll have a cold one for your announcement about Thursday's announcement...you know, to get ready. Stanford stadium looked awesome today. It would be a great facility for a temporary home.
Aaah...That´s a nice "rumour" we got here, but things like this are hardly top secret as there has to be a certain inside crowd ready to celebrate when the announcement comes. It looks so much better for the media as well if they have a bunch of drunk and happy fans in the story..some journos have no doubt been contacted already so make sure to wear gear that will not embarras you in the morning when you open the paper
Unfortunately, Stanford is 3 to 4 times more expensive than Spartan Stadium. It is doubtful that will be the home. Spartan is doubtful as well. Hope that people can stand temporary seating for a few years. In the meantime, I'm off to San Diego for a week. Wednesday night I'll be wearing my Quakes shirt to the Padres/Mets game where our seats are about nine rows from home plate...just not directly behind.
Speaking of cold drinks, Stanford charges $5 for a diet coke, and the same for a lemonade. Maybe they can be persuaded to lower their rental fee for the Earthquakes? They'd still make major $$$ from every game, plus we found a terrific shortcut to the stadium, and I'd like to have the opportunity to use it again.
I don't wanna jinx anything, but let's just say I think I'll be happy for you Bay Area fans on Thursday
They could also make their annoucement that the Fire have been sold...what are the sources for this news? Is it a coincidence that SSV calls for fans to meet at the Brit for the All-Star game? And temp bleach seating...sounds like Buck Shaw? Or a temp field at the end of one of the runways at Mineta!
I had a very brief conversation with Anne Rodriguez while taking Caltrain up to the game yesterday. FUAEG: Excuse me, but aren't you Anne Rodriguez Anne: Yes I am FUAEG: I'm FUAEG (used my real name just to throw her off), so working on anything exciting? Anne: Watch the news FUAEG: When Anne: Watch the news next week Anne has a lovely smile and it was very big as she told me this.
Don't know about the Thursday part, but Ann Rodriguez was on my train to the game yesterday and she told a fellow Quake Fan to "watch the news next week"... And for what it's worth the field at Stanford was beautiful, be nice to think the Quakes would play there for the couple of years it took before the new (Corporate Sponser) Epicenter at San Jose is built... But I'll take temporary stands someplace...
Yea see post 20. It was nice talking to you. Caltrain worked pretty well didnt it? Hope they run Quake specials to the new stadium in a couple of years. One to and from SF, the other to and from Gilroy.
