Climbing the Ladder: Most/Fewest Players Used I think there's a serious chance the record could be broken this year due to the number of trades (probable due to all the coaching changes of the past year). So I'm going to follow the chase using this thread, updating after every weekend. As you can see from the link, the record is 36 players used. It's held by the 1996 Metrostars. This includes regular season games only. There are two fewer games this year which could make things harder, but we'll see. Only nine teams have used as many as 30 players in a season. Current numbers: 25-Real Salt Lake 25-Toronto 24-Chicago 24-Columbus 24-New York 23-Los Angeles 22-Colorado 21-DC United 21-Houston 19-Dallas 19-Kansas City 18-Chivas USA 18-New England Changes: Stephen Keel for the Rapids last night.
great stats, as always The Crew should get player #25 in tonight's game or sometime next week, as Jacob Thomas is supposedly finally getting healthy.
Question for you: do you have any stats regarding playing time/minutes played? Taking a look at mlsnet right now, it looks like only a few players have been on the field every minute so far this season: Chicago - Segares, Pickens Chivas - Guzan Colorado - Coundoul Columbus - Gonzalez Dallas - Moor Kansas City - Zavagnin, Hartman Los Angeles - Harden, Cannon New England - Heaps, Reis Toronto - Brennan Looks like Drew Moor and Brad Guzan will be removed from the list soon though. Out of everyone else, the name that surprises me the most is Ty Harden.
Played Every Minute (as of 6/19) I do keep track of that, but I only update it every other week or so. There are actually 14 players; you're missing Chris Klein who has played every minute he's been available for both RSL and LA.
Through 6/30: 25-Columbus 25-New York 25-Real Salt Lake 25-Toronto 24-Chicago 23-Los Angeles 22-Colorado 21-DC United 21-Houston 19-Chivas USA 19-Dallas 19-Kansas City 18-New England Changes: CHV-Erasmo Solorzano CLB-Jacob Thomas NY-Kevin Goldthwaite
It's funny that with all the injuries/call-ups/"other" situations that the Revs have had already this season, they've only used 18 players this season. Frankly, I really don't expect that to go up too much more this season, barring a red card to Reis or (far less likely) if a DP arrives. Nicol, for better or worse, will always try to field his regulars, even if it means playing them out of their ordinary position. I don't know if they'll break the record, but I have a hard time seeing them go anywhere over 21 for the rest of the season.
Through 7/1: 28-Toronto 25-Columbus 25-New York 25-Real Salt Lake 24-Chicago 23-Colorado 23-Los Angeles 21-DC United 21-Houston 19-Chivas USA 19-Dallas 19-Kansas City 18-New England Changes: COL-Facundo Erpen TOR-Todd Dunivant, Sam Reynolds, Collin Samuel Toronto now only 8 players away from the record. From 1996-2006, the average is 25 players per team.
Actually, Klein can miss two LA games, play every minute in the others, and still end up with 2700 minutes. He played 11 games for SLC, has played 1 for LA, and has 20 games left to play with LA in the regular season. So does Klein need to total 32 to have a complete season? Or does he need to play just 30?
Through 7/4: 29-Toronto 26-Chicago 25-Columbus 25-Los Angeles 25-New York 25-Real Salt Lake 23-Colorado 23-DC United 21-Chivas USA 21-Houston 19-Dallas 19-Kansas City 18-New England Changes: CHI-Jon Busch, Bruno Menezes CHV-Anthony Hamilton, Rodrigo Lopez DC-Domenic Mediate, Greg Vanney LA-Kelly Gray, Carlos Pavon TOR-Tyrone Marshall
