I like the 4-1-2-1-2.
U means unavailable, right?

Re: The "U Team"
That's interesting, but at this point in Sarachan's tenure, I'm interested in results, not excuses. The Fire were hardly convincing in their "best start to a season EVAH!" and all it took was a few injuries to collapse the house of cards.
It seems obvious that many other MLS teams raised their games this year, while the Fire sat on their hands and signed only Blanco the Savior. I personally find this "we'll just wait until August and make a playoff run" concept insulting to me and all Fire fans. Great, let's just watch some crappy soccer until Blanco the Savior gets here. What happens if Blanco the Savior gets an injury, or is tired after playing the Gold Cup and Copa America. And who the hell signed the guy knowing he'd miss even more of the season due to his playing in both the Gold Cup and Copa America? That Guppy is some genius.
But hey, I'm sure we'll have a couple thousand yellow and blue shirted Club America fans at Toyota Park for a couple games. Before they see the crappy product on the field and stay home, that is.
It's just not good enough. If it's not Sarachan's fault, it's Guppy's fault. Personally, I'd like to see them both go, now. It's about accountability: if you don't produce, you go. I feel the same as I do about the Cubs: I just want wins. I don't want excuses. If the coach and/or GM can't get the job done, they go. Simple as that.
I'm sure Sarachan and Guppy can both get jobs in the Bush administration. Competence doesn't seem to be an issue there.

No, they are just missing most of their ball handling talent Rolfe, Mapp, Thiago, Blanco, etc. It can lead to ugly soccer.
And, per your reference of youth soccer with the orange slices - MLS is similar to AYSO (and other youth groups) where most teams only have a handful of solid playmakers. This is not Europe where the top teams are two or even three deep in every position.

Re: The "U Team"
Here's the 'FU' team, guys that have played for dave that don't anymore:
*****Ralph***Herron****
********Razov********
(DMB)*********A.Williams
********Marsch*******
(Boca)*Tony*Cabs*Stewart
*********Zach********
()=left for $$$ after contract. Other guys, in other circumsatnces, could have been retained. Plug in Will Johnson and Will John in the midfield, and you can go from a 4-3-3 to a 3-4-3. Here's what the bench looks like:
Jaqua - was 'going to europe', but appears to have wanted out of chicago
Reiter
Thorrington
Ryan Johnson (traded for, never signed)
Ryan Coiner (ditto)
Bolanos
Dipsy
Boiccott
Ring
Capano
Buete (1st round draft washout)
Sure, some of these guys we're better off without, but a lot of them are gone becuase they didn't see eye to eye with dave. perhaps they were all too tall??? Anyway, the point is we've shed a lot of talent during Daves tenure and the replacements are at best a push, but in my view even worse. The FU first XI would kick the crap out of our current squad, with our without Beas and Boca, and probably with Blanco available. And the real pity is, a lot of the $$$ and picks that were aquired from the sale of these guys is now gone too.

Re: The "U Team"
Damani left for a payday, in the same light that it's not reasonable to think the Fire could still have DMB and Boca, it's not reasonable to think we could have retained him.
Herron flat out sucked for 90% of his time here. It doesn't matter HOW good the 10% is, it's not worth keeping someone with that production rate.
Williams hardly did a thing here.
Stewart did NOTHING here.
Caballero hardly did a thing here.
Zach Thornton never actually returned from spain or wherever it was he went. His plant replicant was a mere shadow of a goalie.
Razov and Marsch....would have been nice had they stayed, but it's 20/20 hindsight to say anything was clear about keeping either of those guys.
Sanneh was a good when there, but that was an awful lot of money to pay for not so much practical benefit.
There's not a guy listed on your bench that makes my heart beat any faster than the guys we currently have.
These "loses" were really not that much.
