Re: Nickname for a team during a time-frame
a few nicknames come to mind:
"Wembley Wizards" - Scottish side that went to Wembley and defeated England in 1928.
The "Magical Magyars" - undefeated Hungarian team of the 1950's (1952 Gold Medal winners; 1954 World Cup runners up)
and the "Wunderteam" - Austria's side of the 1930 with a winning streak and lopsided victories.

Re: Nickname for a team during a time-frame
So far I got:
La Máquina: River Plate of the 1940's. The team consisted of Juan Carlos Muñoz, José Manuel Moreno, Adolfo Pedernera, Angel Labruna and Felix Loustau.
Clockwork Orange: the great dutch national team of the 1970's.
Ye-Ye team: Real Madrid of the 1960's named after the Beatles' song "She loves you".

Re: Nickname for a team during a time-frame
Two more Italian teams
La Grande Inter: Inter Milan that won two European Cups in the 1960's.
II Grande Torino: The dominating Italian side of the 1940's that were killed in a plane crash at Superga.
