As for goal of the year candidates that didn't win goal of the month, I've got one thing to say: Xabi Alonso, 65 yards out, against Newcastle's Stephen Harper (September 20, 2006). Vision, pace, and pinpoint accuracy. His goal was a thing of beauty.
