Default How do you say Hammer in French?, Cisse in East London

West Ham are poised to sign French midfielder Edouard Cisse on a long-term loan deal from Paris St Germain.

Cisse: Medical today
(StuartFranklin/Allsport)
Cisse, 24, has been in London for talks plus a medical examination and the deal was due to be completed today.

Cisse had previously been on trial at Middlesbrough while Everton and Bolton were also interested in the Frenchman, who has signed a year's loan deal with a view to making a permanent move.

West Ham manager Glenn Roeder said: 'Edouard first came to my attention a couple of seasons ago. Harry Redknapp sent me over to watch Paris St Germain a number of times and Edouard invariably caught my attention.

'He is a good athlete and has quality on the ball. The French players generally have done well in what is, in my view, the most physically demanding league in world football and I would hope Edouard will also be able to adapt.

'He played in the same French Under-21 international team as Frederic Kanoute and I know he is delighted to be joining us.'

Roeder last week signed Republic of Ireland defender Gary Breen and the West Ham manager today said: 'I would like to squeeze one more signing in before the transfer deadline at the end of this month.

'My priority now has to be a striker and I will be working hard to bring one in over the next week or so.'

Cisse: Europe is the aim.

"Edouard Cisse says he has joined the Hammers with the intention of helping the club into Europe this season. Edouard, who has signed on a year's loan with a view to a permanent deal, is a veteran of UEFA Cup and Champions' League games with Paris St Germain, and says: "I hope West Ham make Europe this season - and I will do my best to help them win every week.

"The Premiership is the most exciting championship and I am really looking forward to playing for West Ham."
