So Bush wants to outsource his authority (and at least partially his role as CIC), but no one wants the job so far. Here's the money quote:

    Is it 2008 yet?

I like the freedom to use the word Czar. We need more 'leader' words instead of wimpy terms like President. King, Kaiser, Emperor, Dictator. Those terms command authority.

And if he fails to implement the desired strategery, he will be sent home to spend more time with the family.

Screw up, rinse, cover up, repeat.

It is a goal in my life to have the title "Czar" on my business cards. I'll take the job. :)

Maybe they wanted better sounding titles. How about calling the SecDef the "War Czar" and the Joint Chiefs the "War Tzars"?

When I hear that Bush wants a "War Czar" it just reminds me of the whole Dean Wermer "Double Secret Probation" from Animal House.

Retired Marine Gen. John "Jack" Sheehan, a former top NATO commander, was among those who rejected the job, the newspaper reported.

The very fundamental issue is, they don't know where the hell they're going," Sheehan told the Post

Jack Sheehan may have said no, but I have a hunch that Cindy Sheehan would take on the job.

I don't think anyone in their right mind is going to sign up to be the 11th-hour scapegoat.

Then again, there seem to be plenty of Bush sycophants running around...

You forgot the opening clause of your sentence:

    Other than Gen. Petreas, . . .

Oh he'll be gone by August, when he issues a statement to the effect of "holy shit, this is on fkcd-up country, and no amount of boots on the ground will fix it".

Nah, Bush will get up in front of a press conference and express his confidence in the man (or woman) and how they are noble, patriotic etc., etc. Just like he has done for Gonzales, Rumsfeld, Meiers, Brownie.....(care to add some names?)

Brownie wasn't already working as the War Czar? Anyway...

He'd have no trouble filling that position.

This is sounding more and more like the Hudsucker Proxy. Look for the mailroom clerk to be promoted to War Czar.
