Default Houston Chronicle: Wynalda suspended 1 gm, replaced by Foudy

Also of note is that Julie Foudy is replacing Eric Wynalda in the booth on Saturday.

Don't quite know what to make of this just yet as I'm not a big Foudy fan. Wynalda will be back on Thursday night in LA for the ESPN2 opener.

I just opened up the Chronicle this morning and in the sports section we have an article/blog once a week on TV business in sports. It says that Julie Foudy will replace Wynalda in the MLS opener because he is suspended from comments made on a "soccer blog".

Steve Mark will call the games on radio on 790 AM.

What an awful decision. Listening to Foudy talk about soccer is just horrible. I really don't get it, does ESPN enjoy putting out crappy broadcasts with people that don't know what they are talking about?

1. She was going to be part of the broadcast team anyway. She and Stone will have "host" duties for pregame and halftime in the extended broadcast windows, I believe.

b. As always, the perception of the general public is not necessarily the perception of Big Soccer. She doesn't bug me much more than anyone else. She's certainly better than Chastain and is recognizeable enough to the casual fan.

So when Eric gets back in the booth and does his red card/yellow card/game ball segment at halftime....who gets the red card: himself, Jim Rome or ESPN?

I would seriously love to see some signs hung at this match in support of Wynalda.

Something like:
ESPN
Rules (then with a flip down over "rules" that says "Wynalda's Right!"- once they're on camera)

or:

Rome can suck my orange slice!
